). I would love to hear your favorites by her.
I loved her first novel, Three Wishes. It's the only book of hers I've read. But I loved it so much that I included it in a box of new books I sent a beloved aunt who was recently widowed. I got the idea because they were married 63 years and she has talked of being sad how much time she has on her hands. She was so grateful and one by one has been calling me to let me know how much she loves each book. She chose Three Wishes first, I don't know why.
FYI the other books I sent her were Montana 1948 and the sequel Justice by Larry Watson
Case Histories by Kate Atkinson (Jackson Brody #1)
A Yellow Raft in Blue Water by the late Michael Dorris
The Bird Artist by Howard Norman
Patty Jane's House of Curl by Lorna Landvik
Daisy Fae and the Miracle Man by Fannie Flagg (funniest book I've ever read)
Remember Me by Laurie Hendrie
The Sweet Hereafter by Russell Banks
The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery
The Cuckoo's Calling by JK Rowling
(I kept a record in case she loved it so I could do it again and not send her the same book twice! And she is loving them so I'm already trying to get ideas for box #2 even though it will be awhile before she makes her way through these).
Perfect gift! How lucky your aunt is to have you in her life. ![]()

LoriLori: I'm reading Kate Atkinson's first novel now, Behind the Scenes at the Museum. She wrote it in 1995 but I just found it at the library sale.
Don't know how to describe it. Unlike anything I have ever read. Alternately funny and poignant story of 4 generations of a British family told by the youngest member of the current generation with the historical bits told in chapters called "Footnotes". I can't put it down and don't want it to end.

One of my book clubs focused on Kate Atkinson: members could read any of her books and exchange thoughts.
We covered all she wrote; no one liked anything.
I had tackled Life After Life, which I could appreciate. But I would never recommend it.

Thanks for the kind words, Skyblue and Vamp. I am so pleased at how well received the gift of books has been to my recently-widowed aunt. I'm working on the second box.
She lives in a senior community and asked if she can put the ones she's read in the clubhouse there so others can enjoy them. Love the idea, it does my heart good.
Linders Back, I've read everything Kate Atkinson has written except Life After Life. My favorite is Case Histories and I've liked or loved them all except for Emotionally Weird, which I found both slow and pointless.

Insomniac--Thanks for your opinion on Atkinson. I actually started a thread about Life After Life a while back. It was one of those books that sat on my nightstand for a while and I'd be marginally interested in a few chapters, then lose my steam. Also, love the idea of a book club reading anything within an author's collection and discussing from there.
