Thanks, Judaline, for your note. Sarah's Quilt is in that group too. One of the ladies in our book club recommended them, and most of the group read and loved all three. Have you ever read 'I Heard the Owl Call My Name' by Margaret Craven? It's about a missionary to a tribe of Indians in British Columbia. I knew it first as a movie before I found the book, but it's still only available on VHS. Those characters are unforgettable as well.

36 Hours by Allison Brennan was a quick read. It was okay, it was a short book so moved quickly.

Now I'm reading Defending Jacob by William Landay. I know I'm late to the table reading this one!

Happy New Year everyone. Someone recommended this book THE WOODCUTTER by Reginald Hill. This is the first book I have read by this author. I am about 1/3 through and am really enjoying it.

Reginald Hill is my favorite author, hands down. He has a wonderful police procedural series featuring a team of detectives, Peter Pascoe and Andy Dalziel. There are around 20 books in the series. They're all different and never get boring. Dalziel is one of the best fictional characters ever.

In Britain the Dalziel and Pascoe stories were made into a TV series a few years ago. Not sure if they are available here.

Hi everyone. I'm halfway through with a biography of Johnny Carson, written by his entertainment lawyer and one of his closest friends. The title? Johnny Carson, by Henry Bushkin.

I've gotten through three of his wives already. He's still married to Joanna, after Jody (the mother of his sons) and Joanne. There will be a fourth one, Alexis, but I don't think that marriage ended well either.

The book is interesting and filled with lots of stories about Johnny, and the Tonight Show in New York and then in California. I always liked Johnny Carson but didn't realize he had such a dark side, although I'd heard rumors over the years.

I updated my book lists last night. It took me several hours but I'm up to date now. I can't tell you how many books I have on my Kindle because I'm embarrassed {#emotions_dlg.blushing} Even though 99% of them were free, it's still ridiculous to have so many books to read. And that's NOT counting my TBR list that has 632 books (but who's counting???)

Happy reading everyone and have a great weekend.

Sunny

Sunny, I have the Bushkin book queued up to read on my iPod. Last month I read Here's Johnny by Ed McMahon, which was short & sweet. Didn't dwell much on Johnny's dark side, had lots & lots of good memories from the show itself, from the early days in NYC to the move to Los Angeles. Really enjoyed it.

I am a Reginald Hill fan also - have read three or four of the Pascoe & Dalziel series, which I enjoyed immensely, but The Woodcutter was brilliant.

Thanks, honey, I'll check that one out. I also read Sarah's Quilt. Pretty sure that was my favorite, but it's really a tough choice.

Lilysmom, I LOVED The Kitchen House. It stayed in my mind long after I finished it.

Sk888888, I also read the Ed McMahon book about Johnny Carson, and yes it was a more lighthearted book than this one. Was Johnny Carson alive when he wrote the book? It's really hard to know how true a biography is once the person is gone. I take the validity of these books for what they're worth.

It is, however, quite enjoyable. Happy reading!
