Getting ready to start Striking Distance by Pamela Clare. It's been a while since I read one of her books.

I just finished The Dinner by the same author of Gone Girl. I had trouble getting into but the ending was dynamic. I did not see some of the characters developing as they did. It is very thought provoking as well as an example of just tragic parenting. I read this for my book club and am anxious to hear what the others thought.

The Dinner was by Herman Koch and Gone Girl was by Gillian Flynn.

I didn't hate The Dinner but I didn't really like it, either. I just thought it was nothing special.

I loved the creativity of Gone Girl. It was very cleverly written.

You are right, the author of Gone Girl wrote a reccomendation for the book, it was printed on the back cover and I just glanced! Oops, thanks for letting me know so I did not make this same proclomation again.

I just finished What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty. Great book. I have requested other books she has written from the library. Hope they are as good!

No problem, fbm2lsm. I do see the similarities. Both books are kind of perverse with an ending that's unexpected.

I haven't read this one, but The Hypnotist's Love Story and The Husband's Secret are both very good. I've had What Alice Forgot on my to-be-read list for a while.

I have read all of these Liane Moriarty books and they are all wonderful. She is an excellent storyteller.

I have found another British mystery/thriller author that I am really enjoying. He is called Mark Billingham and I am reading The Dying Hours. Highly recommended.

Re: What Are You Reading --- January 2014

Just finished A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS by Hosseini. Had read his KITE RUNNER last year. SUNS was depressing, especially in how Afghani women lived during the many invasions from Soviets through to the Taliban regimes. Now when I read about events there, I am saddened for the girls and women who are impacted. THE HUNTED by Lescroart is now ready for paging. Can't wait for next DaSilva paperback spy novel set in Israel to come out. We have a paperback exchange nearby and you get credit for returned paperbacks applied to new ones (even audio books!). Tried electronic books, but love the tactile feel of a paperback. Hardcovers are quite heavy anymore.

Update on The Woodcutter. I'm now 2/3 of the way through and I can't put it down. Very engrossing!

You are a lot quicker - I'm about 1/2 way through and also enjoying it very much.
