Re: What Are You Buying Today?

What am I buying today?

Nothing here.

But I just got back with a haul of assorted goodies from the Dollar Store.

Of the little I saw off and on, most of the stuff looked pretty much the same as years past.

Actually yes, March 17th is his feast day.   He's the patron saint of the Archdiocese of New York.

Nothing.  I have an issue re secularizing "religious" holidays for profit.

St. Patrick's day is a religious holiday???

@gidgetgh  It actually was a day of Holy Obligation for Catholics in Ireland at one time.

So yes, it did begin as a religious day.

@Cakers3 @ALRATIBA- I honestly had no idea.

To me, I’ve just always known it as a fun day where we all wear green.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

@gidgetgh  I think most people look at it as a day of parades, corned beef and cabbage, and other assorted festivities.

I will say what annoys me is when St. Paddy's Day falls on a Friday during Lent and bishops issue a special dispensation allowing Catholics to have meat for that one Friday.

Either it's Lent or it isn't, with meat allowed on Friday or not.

I also didn't buy anything but I tuned in here and there-some items are lovely.

@Cakers3

Considering that St. Patrick's day doesn't fall on a Friday that often ... I don't have a problem with the dispensation.  Besides .. the dispensation last year required some other penitential act.

@ALRATIBA  Depends upon the diocese.  I've never heard of another penitential act being required.  What would that be?  No green beer?? Smiley Tongue

That being said, we can agree to disagree about corned beef on Friday during Lent. LOL

Nothing from the Q,but bought some Irish Soda bread and a Shamrock plant to take to my daughter's tomorrow.  She's having her in-laws and us over for dinner.
