Re: What A Difference A Host Makes

@asoutherngirl    Welcome to the boards and don't give too much thought to the slings and arrows on these forums. Everyone has an opinion and likes to give and get advice or we wouldn't be here. My advice is to take what's said with a grain of salt, but don't let anyone diminish your response.

A host REALLY makes a difference.  I watch much less QVC now than I have in years just due to the number of hosts I don't find enjoyable to watch.

I absolutely agree... And as far as it goes, @asoutherngirl, you said nothing wrong. You expressed a positive opinion about one host and while you were clearly comparing her performance to others, you didn't mention them by name...

Some of the more pious among us take exception to any criticism of hosts. Personally, if I don't like a host or a host's performance, I have no problem saying so, though I do think it's important to do so in a non-demeaning manner...

As for the poster classifications, they really don't mean a great deal. Anyone that sticks around long enough, posts enough, and gets a smattering of 'hearted' posts ends up in pretty much the same category... And actually, they seem to have capped their 'labels' at 'Honored'...

What a difference it would make if posters could find a way to compliment one host without denigrating another.

That said, I saw Jayne in the midnight hour  -  good show.

I tend to agree with that premise... That said, the OP didn't mention another host by name... If there is the capacity for others to know of whom she was referring, maybe that itself says something...

Jayne Brown is hosting the Dennis Basso collection and they are actually talking about his designs!!!  No silliness here.  Refreshing to watch and hear about his clothes without having to endure the host's insertion of self.

What I noticed was that Jayne was trying to speak and Dennis seemed irritated with her and interupted her a few times. I felt like you could cut the tension with a knife.

Welcome asoutherngirl to the boards. You will receive a variety of opinions and sometimes it can be interesting the different "take" posters have on a given situation. Hope you enjoy!

I like Dennis, always have, but he does tend (as do other vendors, and in a more obnoxious way) to run off at the mouth... I think he often gets irritated with hosts who he perceives as 'getting in his way'. You'd think by now he'd know the drill... But then, of course, there are others who you'd think would have 'got it' by now too...  Lisa probably handled him better than most. She tended to just let him go and then, when he absolutely had to come up for air, she'd jump in. I seem to recall him once telling one of the hosts to 'shut up'... and actually, there are times when I'd personally like to say the same thing.

I think Dennis prefers certain hosts that he deems on trend. I just get that feeling about him. Jayne is a nice lady but not someone I think of as having style. I felt bad for her last night because he seemed to be exceptionally overbearing with her.

I agree about Lisa....

Well, I'll tell you... I was going for 'sanctimonious' or 'self-righteous', but you just never know what's going to be labeled as 'unkind' these days...

That Basso jacket yesterday was beautifully designed-nice lines!  I bought a version of this many years ago, still wear it and I still get compliments every time!
