Re: West Nile and Lantern Flies

I haven't seen any spotted lantern flies yet in my part of PA., but I'm sure they'll be hatching soon.

Before we left the San Antonio area, it was reported on one of the local TV news programs those kissing bugs were responsible for a very large number of dog deaths on the Southwest side of the city.  They are to be feared on many levels.

@dancingwoman   That's probably the case I heard about.

I heard your temp was in the 40s this morning.  Maybe there's hope this horrid summer will end.

Lantern flies kill trees.  I hate them.  Pests.  An unwanted import from China.

I'm aware of that. Unfortunately, no accurate picture was shown so I had no idea the bug that looked like a pretty moth was a Lantern Fly.

BTW, the Audubon has discovered that the cause of the bird illness was cicadas and not contagious, not spread among birds,, so the removal of bird feeders caused more harm to birds by inept people who jumped to the wrong conclusion. Had it been contagious, lots more birds would have been affected including mature birds.

I thought them wrong so my feeders remained up.

Re: West Nile and Lantern Flies

Do the lantern flies carry West Nile?

I've not seen one in NJ, but the surrounding states have them.
