Oh yes. My next door neighbors, Sam and Jenny. When my Mother was angry at me, I would run to their house for comfort. When anyone in our house was sick, Jenny would send over chicken soup that she made for them.
Miss them and think of them frequently. They are long gone.

Yes, and I've thought about this a lot. Thanks for the nice thread. When I was a kid in the 50's-60's, all the neighbors knew each other. All the kids played together. We were always in each other's yards and houses. Backyard BBQ's... everyone sitting in their lawn chairs in their driveways in the evening... people looking out for everyone else. It was one gigantic family atmosphere in about a 2-block radius. I have fond memories of most of them.
Now, neighbors move in and out and we never know their names. Everyone stays to themselves in their own houses and yards.

When my 2 sisters and I grew up we ewre in NJ, a quiet stre so happened that the Catholic kindergarden building had 2 very large rooms directly behind the large Catholic Church we attended. Elementary school across the street with the nuns' convent across the parking lot from the school.
Our neighbors were Miss Gorman on one side of our house, Minny & Helen (2 sisters) on the other side of us, Mrs Kelly directly across the street. Our street came to a "V" betwwen the church and the school, a complete but small neighborhood grocery market called Gentile's. Our family Dr's office part of the house that family all lived in, Dr Cahill. A large Baptist Church at the opposite end of the street. We all knew each other, a large parochial congregation from church and school.
We lived there from 1953 when I was born until June 1966 when we pulled up stakes and moved to OH.
