Went out today first time in two weeks, no shortages anywhere .

Finally lifted our self imposed quarantine as I needed to shop. Had a great time, everybody was so nice and friendly. Guy behind me in line asked if we could just pop open those Bud Lights right then and there Smiley LOL  I went to Aldi's, WalMart, Dollar Tree, Wendy's (drive thru), Walgreens (drive thru)  -  wore gloves and used hand sanitizer but really wasn't anxious at all.  Nobody coughed or sneezed and we kept our distance.  For now there are no reported cases in our county or the nearby county but, of course, that could change any minute now.

I thanked everybody in every store for how hard they are working to keep the shelves stocked.   Every single thing that I needed was available and I was very grateful.

WIshing everybody well.

I don't know where you live, but the few trips I have made to the grocery store has been hit-or-miss. We have not been out for 10 days now except to go pickup an order at one grocery store. They were out of three things on my list. Stores here seem to be stocking as fast as they can, but the shelves are stripped as soon as they put it on the shelves...or customers are taking things off the racks as they come out of the stockroom. Every grocery store I have driven past has had crowded parking lots...seems so odd to see other stores closed or deserted with maybe one car out front. We have not been doing take-out for food; I am not sure about what steps restaurants are taking with their employees to make sure the food they put in bags and other packaging they use is sanitary. I know it is weird but I can't help it. I would rather make something here and know it is okay.
Congratulations on your successful outing....hope I can be that lucky next time!

Re: Went out today first time in two weeks, no shortages anywhere .

I made another foray tonight. Less beef, no butter except the $10 one that no one's buying (it's in unsanitary loose paper wrappings, too), no toilet paper, only a dozen or so single rolls of no-name paper towels that I know are garbage, no bleach, no wipes, no disinfectant, only a few bottles of Tide, none of my cats' treat food, etc. It's worse than my trip a week ago. The poor clerks know nothing.  I'll try elsewhere tomorrow.

It's still very hit or miss here too. I suppose it's adequate to get by, but one keeps hoping things will improve and they don't seem to be doing so. This is what leads me to feel that some sort of authority needs to be created and quickly to manage the supply chain and manage how retailers are operating until things are more consistently working. Not everything is an essential but retailers don't seem able to manage getting essentials on the shelves. Clearly, they need direction, as do suppliers.

@stevieb  I totally agree with you! I really wish there was something in place (not sure how it could/would be implemented, but just feel its definitely needed right now) where they could "limit" most items. I know that here in my town anyways they are limiting milk to 2 gallons at a time, but what's to stop someone from going thru the check out, taking it to the car and going right back in again. So, obviously there are cracks in that set up..Like I said I'm not sure how to do it, but just that it needs to be done.

Heck, I figured we'd at least see some tp on the shelves, but it's been WEEKS here and there has been none. Luckily I bought some before all this stuff hit, but it's not going to last forever lol...and the way things are looking it's not going to get better any time soon w/regards to the empty shelves.

I need to get out for groceries, but I am dreading it because I don't want to go and the store not have the things I need.  And I haven't been able to schedule a time for pickup or delivery because the stores are booked up a week in advance.  I am running out of the fresh things, like milk, eggs, bread, produce.  I have a good stock of cleaning supplies and paper products.

I will NEVER take grocery shopping for granted ever again.

I live in a major city and have not seen a carton of eggs, paper products or canned goods in weeks!!!  Frozen food?  What's that??

@BrandiDavis  The ongoing empty shelves, particularly for necessities, is both disconcerting and has become ridiculous. There's really no reason for it There was an initial glut of hoarding and over-buying, but that should have been addressed immediately and some plan quickly put in place for restocking and staying reasonably stocked. That said, retail stores in my area have not, overall, been doing a good job of keeping shelves stocked even in the best of times, which this surely is not. The current situation aside, It seems to me that corporate types need to look at better ways of managing inventory and have needed to do so for a long time. Clearly, they need to be doing a better job of planning for crisis management.
