Went from one cat to three cats in two weeks..need advice!

I'll try to make this story somewhat short. About 2 1/2 weeks ago we adopted a stray kitty. The vet said he's a healthy six month old male. My 5 year old male Maine Coon and he are now best buddies, only after about two and half weeks. Well then my mother in law became ill unexpectedly and unfortunately we lossed her on Christmas morning. We took her 12 year old famale cat home with us, set her up in the guest bedroom with all of her necessities. We've been introducing her to the boys in small doses, by only letting them look at each other on either side of the door. Also letting them get scent of her toys too. Today will be her 4th day with us. This morning we let her out and my Main Coon started to make this awful cat scream at her and actually went after her. He was out of control. My husband and I got them separated, and I honestly thought our cat was going to hurt her. My question is....is there any hope these cats will get along? Am I rushing it? I am so worried he will hurt her. He's a big cat and his actions this morning made me wonder. I know she's going through a stressful time losing her owner and now living in a strange environment. Such a sad time for us too losing his mother. I so dearly want this to work out with all three cats. The little six month old kitty is pretty laid back and doesn't seem to be bothered by her much. I'll keep trying my best and hope for the best. But I have my doubts.....
