Well, it's coming down to the wire -

only 10 more days until Christmas. I've baked cookies, handed out toys at the food bank until I was literally exhausted, seen Christmas shows at a few places in town, mailed my cards, decorated and shopped , shopped, shopped. Most of our neighbors are leaving this weekend to go back up north with their families for the holiday.

I love Christmas but I am very tired already and anxious for it to be over. All I really have left to do is deliver a few gifts - and take some friends to the airport. In January we will be picking up those friends when they return.

My birthday is right the first week of Jan. too so that seems to extend the whole thing !

Sounds like you really gave of yourself to make this holiday season special. These things are all appreciated and don't go unnoticed. kudos to you!  I always try to make each holiday, birthday, anniversary, promotion, etc.as specials as I can. Take the 10 days to rest and treat yourself to something nice.

OP's post made me chuckle. I do and give but never feel the need to be patted on the back for doing good deeds.

You deserve a pat on the back for all that you do... I am thankful for those who give of themselves and who doesn't enjoy being appreciated.I am thankful for all of the kind and generous people who try to make a difference in the world.

Re: Well, it's coming down to the wire -

You really should pace yourself.  I ran my self ragged over the holidays back in the day when I had young children and I had to.  Those days are gone, now I savor the season.  I do only what I want to do, when I want to do it and kick back and just enjoy my favorite time of the year.  I suppose it's how you look at life.  For me, I have a whole 10 more days go go.  No fuss, no srtress because I have so much time.  I did all my shopping online this year, 100% of it.  I can't begin to tell you how much time that saved.    I started 12/1 and everything is here in the house or will arrive today.  I shop for 2 of my husband's friends and one of my friends and this year, I insisted that if they wanted my help, I needed their money and their wrapping supplies by the Saturday after Thanksgiving.  That worked, I wrapped and tagged all their stuff before I started on my own.  I still have my own wrapping to do, I'll do that tomorrow and Sunday.  That leaves next week to bake cookies and lots of time to listen to Christmas music, watch my favorite Christmas movies and kick back and just enjoy my decorations.  Life just seems to get easier and more relaxed as time goes on. Working from home made my life a whole easier and stress free too.    One thing that came off my plate, or to be honest came of hubby's plate is the "can you drive us to the airport?".   When Uber and LYFT entered all our lives, that did away with asking for rides to the airport or train station. I want to go to one of the bigger, upscale malls to wander around and take in the atmopshere and have nice lunch.   Next week, if I can get a friend to take the day off and go with me.

Re: Well, it's coming down to the wire -

I don't know what is going on this year but I know more people, myself included, who just have no holiday spirit. Either that or it seems like the time has flown and not much is getting done.

I spoke to someone yesterday who said her tree is up but doesn't have an ornament on it.  She kept thinking she still had 2 weeks then realized next Sunday is Christmas eve.  She's only about halfway done with her shopping and everything still needs to be wrapped.

Several friends of mine are in the same boat and honestly, so am I.  I only need 1 gift still that should be an easy buy but nothing is wrapped and now we are unexpectedly having work done at our home this weekend which is creating a huge mess in my decorated house.
