I didn't think she was either. I thought she was making a comment about wearing pj's in public. Since that's what the Q's been hawking lately.

I, personally, do not care for this casual attitude.

And I guess I just thought she had standards above the lowest common denominator. Absolutely nothing wrong with that and no, everything isn't relative. I might wear loungewear around the house but when I leave the house call me crazy, but I actually wear clothes. Most often they're informal clothes but no, they aren't pajamas.

"very elegant Thanksgiving Inn"

If not snobby or condescending then what?

I reread the OP several times and I don’t believe she had a condescending or snobby attitude at all. I think the reference to a “nice area” by @Calcgirl and “an elegant Thanksgiving Inn” by @amyb was an attempt to rule out other more understandable reasons for going out in public this way.

Presumably someone who was homeless wouldn’t be dining in an expensive Inn. I read the comment to mean that the gentleman didn’t have the excuse that someone in dire straits might have.

I grew up poor, have never forgotten my roots  and am very sensitive to class snobbery but I absolutely don’t believe these posters were intending any such thing.

I agree with you but apparently anything goes these days around here and we're all supposed to have an infinite supply of 'empathy' for everybody but those who still try to maintain reasonable standards of behavior...

I grew up on a family farm.  We had little money and my parents had little education.  However, our house was clean, our clothes were clean and pressed, our hair was brushed and clean, and we learned manners and were required to be kind even if we had disagreements.   This represented respect for myself and others, my desire to make a good impression when looking for a job, and a desire to present myself at my best.  This life long lesson served me well.   PJ's,  fuzzy slippers, uncombed hair, clothes that look like they were in a heap for a month in public places are not an economic issue.  For all who choose to dress fashionably (I don't mean expensive) in public, that says something about you.  However, for those who think whatever they wear in public should be acceptable, that says a lot about you as well.

Well said @Tshirtgal.

I went to Safeway today and I saw a lady with two kids, all of them dressed in pajamas. She also had big fuzzy slippers and a old robe on. By the looks of her hair and the kids hair, it was apparent they just got out of bed although it was later in the afternoon. Not sure if they were sick or what, but I stayed a distance away from them just in case.  This is a nice area, so I doubt she was dressed this way because she could not afford clothes.

At this point in time, it is common for me to see folks in pajamas. Apparently, it has now become accepted attire.

Like all things that have changed since I was young, I try and make myself realize that part of growing old gracefully is adapting in a non judgmental way to change.

I'm a little surprised by the negative responses on here or should I be?   I totally got what the OP was saying and didn't see anything wrong with it.  I too recently stayed at an upscale hotel (so what!?) and certain floors had private lounges, again (so what?!)  If you have worked hard you have a right to enjoy certain things in your life.  What you share with others is up to you.........but the point I was getting at was in this "fancy pants" hotel lounge they literally had a sign on the wall that "pajama's and slippers are not allowed in the lounge area".   So that says it all, don't assume everyone who dresses like a total slob in public is poor or is mentally ill. JMOO.

Bingo... It does no one any good to make excuses for every instance of any sort of questionable behavior...  And really, we're supposed to believe that even the most downtrodden among us have only pajamas and bedroom slippers to wear to the grocery store, and then we're supposed to embrace the notion? I sort of don't think so...

You seem to have a dialog going on in your own head. You have decided to take parts of her post and respond. Why would she go up and talk to a woman with children?

She simply made an observation about a woman in a robe and slippers with children in pajamas. In a public place.

She was not judgmental. She made an observation that is all.

Can we see why this world is in peril. This post was an easy read, yet many didn’t pay attention to what she posted.

Re: Well. I Have Seen it All

Unfortunately that's the way many are here on the boards. They will jump on and criticize the OP with abandon. I was SMH at a thread from a poster who was already sad and distraught over losing her cat. Other posters were ripping her apart for not doing what THEY thought she SHOULD'VE done for the cat and that she didn't deserve a pet, etc.

Pretty mean IMO.  You def. need a thick skin to post here.

Re: Well. I Have Seen it All

You hit the nail on the head @Calcgirl  they only take information that supports their agenda, and they disregard the rest. It’s called confirmation bias.

Your post was clear. I wouldn’t respond to any of them.

Yes, you do @KKJ  Or, you can just consider the source and move on. That’s what I do.
