No thanks. I'll still be using as little butter, fats, margarine as I can, avoiding fat on the little meat that we do eat and continue eliminating processed foods when possible.

ITA! BUT, these clueless people can eat all the fat, greasy gunk until they pop. Have to keep the doctors in business. Have to keep the insulin makers in business. Have to keep the dialysis centers in business. So go ahead, eat away. You'll pay later. Guaranteed.

I think you may be the one who is clueless. Fat is essential in our diet. We should have fat in moderation. Real butter is better for you than fake margarine.

she isn't clueless. Read her post again. If you think reading "fat, greasy gunk until they pop" is in "moderation", think again.

Americans eat too much junk. Period. This type of article is clueless because the problem isn't the food - it is the "in moderation" part that Americans fall flat on.

No one here has advocated in anything but moderation. To say butter makes you fat is ridiculous. That is a clueless statement. No one here is guzzling fat, greasy junk until they pop. Butter is better than margarine for you.

Americans aren't getting fat from eating fat, they are getting fat from eating too much period. To blame it on fat is clueless.

again, you need to read her comment again. She wasn't talking about in moderation. And Americans are eating too much junk in this country. If they were eating too much green leafy salads, without all of the FAT dressing and stuff, they would not be getting fat.

The way Americans eat in this country is eating way too much fat junky greasy food. To think otherwise is clueless.

The French WALK everywhere - they burn off their calories. They may eat more butter, but they also eat more fresh veggies and fruits, less processed stuff than Americans eat.

yes, it does matter what type of FATS you eat.

The French don't eat in between meals the way that Americans often do. They also walk more than we do to get to their destination.

And as far as the poster who said that fat is the cause of high insulin levels, nothing could be further from the truth. Excess carbohydrates and simple sugars are what affect insulin levels. High insulin levels contribute to storage of fat and many experts have written that it may be why we have so much obesity in this country. Americans preoccupation with desserts and sugar in general...

The low fat diet has failed us and the drive to cut out most fats from the diet has made many people to live on a spaghetti and high carbohydrate diet thinking they are doing something healthy for themselves.

BTW, none of this is really new news. There have been many studies pointing to the fact that carbohydrates and sugar are really the cause of our high rate of coronary artery disease...

I stopped using margarine, CoffeeMate, no fat Mayo and salad dressing years ago. If I eat one of these things, I use the real thing. I don't use sugar much but when I do, it's real sugar.

My weight stabilized and in fact, I lost weight when I cut out all the fat-free junk.

That doesn't mean you can eat a stick of butter a day. It just means when you use the product, you use the real version instead of the fake. I've found I use less because it is more flavorful and satisfying.

Exactly Azterry, I will not eat anything that says "lite" on the packaging, I eat the real thing also but not too often. My one bad vice is real cream and sugar in my coffee. I wear a size medium and I don't think that's too bad after having four kids.

She said THESE clueless people. To state these means us people here on this board who said we prefer butter over margarine. No one here said we drank it or ate a stick a day, just preferred it to margarine. If she said Americans on average eat too much fat along with too much of everything I would have agreed with her but she didn't. Her post indicated we were all fat and getting diabetes from just fat and that also isn't true.

I also stated that they walk more and eat much less processed foods than we do.

Super size food portions along with sugar (including artificial), then add salt and fat to the diet and you have the perfect storm!....American's eat too much, too much sugar, too much salt, and too much (unhealthy) fat.

I must confess, though, that it is sometimes difficult to do food shopping. I was walking into the supermarket yesterday and on the way in was a prominent display of Mallomars and my favorite brand of potato chips. Last week it was Irish soda bread. {#emotions_dlg.devil2}{#emotions_dlg.sad}

I try and shop the perimeter of the market but I can really understand why people love their junk food.

Exactly. McDonald's has perfected the art of addictive food.

There is a huge difference between a McDonald's hamburger and a homemade one (or even a French one). LOL
