Heat in Texas dry or humid?
They discovered problems with the Grid during Feb 2022 Artic Freeze, with so called "green energy" insufficient unexpectred unseasonal cold....(no wind, windmills dont help, in winter solar doesnt help)......Although this year we did have much cooler temperatures in May, the heat has comeback with a vengence and we have been breaking records since June....(but the same thing happened in the Spring last year, temperatures well over 100--too early).....Our heat is humid, and with influx of lots of spring rain this year, its added to the humidity and heat index....
Heading into summer they said we could be cutting it close with our grid and more work is needed. However, despite record breaking temperatures here in San Antonio Ive only had one call from CPSENERGY asking for VOLUNTEERING Conservation from 3PM to 6PM.....turning up thermostats to 78 to 80 and not running major appliances during this time, and also emails warning about extreme weather recommendations to help keep bills low....
@Spurt We had our trouble in Feb. 2021 when Gov. Abbott took so much heat about the grid. May of 2022 felt like August, thank goodness this past May was much much cooler. June 2023 is not leading me to feel we will have as a cooler summer. Have not seen you in awhile, football coming soon!!!!!!!
Yep, I think we are getting double the heat to make up for our cooler May temperatures......SHEESH!!!! But its almost July and so only 3 more months of heat to make it through until the nicer and cooler October weather returns...CANT WAIT!
I have been only on the Football Sports part of the Forum here and on social media and reading and keeping up with my team this offseason, and listening to Podcasts...Also following the exploits of our #1 draft pick for my NBA Spurs...Its WEMBY DAY !!!!
Yep, just a few more weeks until NFL Training Camps start and then preseason games and then the NFL season....CANT WAIT!

I'm only doing laundry in the early morning or after dark. Dishwasher is turned on at bedtime. They ask for thermostat to be set at 78° but we have it at 76°.
I'm in Texas and comply as you describe. But, businesses could do the same. Retailer have full banks of lights on and the AC is cranked.

@On It wrote:@Spurt That is good to hear. Those brownouts were so inconvenient.
So far, so good-- but who knows with this extreme heat you never know what the utility company will decide to do.....

You will get a chuckle about this story...In 2021 it was 93 degrees which is normal for May.....what was weird we got the automated call asking for conversation, but it was only 93 degrees.....The Utility Company, CPS Energy in San Antonio had a meeting with surrounding communities and future plans for improvement of equipment regarding handling increased power demands now and in the future .The Mayor of the surrounding town of Helotes, noticed that the CPSENERGY's building had their thermostat set at 65 degrees and the MAJORITY OF EMPLOYEES WERE WORKING FROM HOME and few people were even in the building....He pointed out that heres a way to conserve energy.... Also an energy alert had been sent out telling people to conserve that same day with NORMAL 93 degree temperatures that are usually easily handled by the Grid..The citizens/consumers WERE NOT AMUSED!!!.SMH!

My first experience in Texas was a stop over in Dallas on the way to Mexico. I eagerly went outside to experience Texas heat. A wall of tremendous heat met me. I stayed as long as I could, but I gave up and retreated back to the air conditioning. So it's the heat I remember (along with men in Stetson hats) Men looked great in them. Made them appear much taller. So it's that along with tremendous distance between places that I took back with me from Texas. I came back to Dallas for a week long stay. It was in winter. So I remember how nice is was then. A lot of people are moving there. I'm guessing it's about jobs there. So people are going to put up with the heat (and the tornado) I've still never seen a real one. My husband first day in Texas (he was in the Air Force) had a tornado. What a greeting.

Today it was 102 here in DFW. With the high humidity it felt like 112; tomorrow it will be 107 and feel like 118. It is so hot, some of the roads are buckling, water mains are breaking, and water restrictions are being imposed. Can't imagine why anyone would think this heat is funny when people are dying from it. Very sad. We should be down to only 104 on Thursday. Wish I could stay inside, but I have to drive to the pharmacy to pick up meds and have a dr appt.
The grid seems to be holding just fine, but they do ask people to limit use of big appliances between 4pm an 8pm. We gladly do that. Have the a/c set at 76 now....with the ceiling fans, it is very comfortable. I can live with anything except a power outage.
