Yes, I think you have gotten some good advice.
I adopted two 5 week old kittens about 4 years ago. The litter was found in someone's garage without the mother. She might of gotten hurt. I brought two of them home and tried to catch them anytime I could when they were about to go and put them in there. One even started going near the box just not in it, they were so small. But, they caught on quick. They will catch on.
I did the same with the scratching when they would scratch everything in sight. Now they scratch their cat things. It is not perfect, of course, cats seem to have their own minds, but it saved my furniture and carpet. Each one has their own things they like to scratch.
Good luck. I love kittens.

I just thought of something else...
When you begin weaning your baby off formula and introducing food, don't forget kittens don't tolerate cow's milk. It was recommended to use goat's milk or a special kitten milk to mix in with dry food to form a mush. When my cats were weaned they took right to the dry food mushed up with goat's milk. No intestinal upset.

Good point, John!
My DD takes care of a feral colony at her home and over time has brought 8 abandoned kittens into the home, but if it's not during vet office hours, she keeps any newcomer isolated until a feline leukemia test can be one, to protect the other cats.
Unfortunately, it can be very prevalent in feral colonies, since it spreads so easily.
She has had to humanely euthanize quite a few of the outdoor ferals over the years, when their health deteriorated so badly that they were suffering, crying her heart out for each one.
Thank your daughter for my wife and myself for taking care of those details, many of which were probably born from a mama kitty that was dumped out of a car like a bag of trash. We live right next to a State highway and we know that is why we have taken care of so many Gerald since we moved here in 2000.
We moved here with 6 indoor only furry ones, all of which are now on the other side of The Bridge. At our peak we had 13 of them in our indoor only family, we now have 7 that allow us to live with them.
Like your daughter, we too have had to euthanize many of our felines. All of them had some type of medical issue that either put them in pain, or destroyed their quality of life. It never gets any easier, and with each one a piece of our hearts went with them?
It is such a shame there are people in this world that claim to be human, but can at the same time not give a single thought to dumping poor live defenseless animals, many of which face a terrible ending.
Thank you for this post and again a BIG thank you to your daughter for doing so much to help so many felines that are left to their own resources to live.
