Yes Noel, there is one person as of right now, but can't really talk about it on these threads. It is something I have to deal with.....and that makes me uncomfortable some of the time.

I am always willing to learn something new every day, and often I do, as that is what can make life interesting. I do try to stay up to date on what goes on in the world around us......even though I don't always understand exactly what it is or the purpose of it is......

Hi ShowMe, I really am sorry to read that someone is putting pressure on you to change. From what I know of you, you have a really nice life. I include Mr. Lucky and your interest in sports.

You're entitled to do it your way, I support that

I agree with you, partly. Now if we are talking about people like myself that is in the oft called,"golden age", but if some are still in the rat race, as life is seem my some?

My last job I was not physically forced to accept, but financially with me having over 30+ years with the company? Had I not accepted it my present life(my future at that time)might have been much different. They eliminated the job I was working at the time and said "here is your new job". Force? Depends on the use of the word force. Physical? No. Maybe life altering my future if I said no? Yes.

Computerized jobs were the furthest thing on my mind. I had worked manual labor jobs for this company of the years mentioned above. Along with taking this new job I was supposedly taught this job by my fellow co-workers. Unfortunately these co-workers resented the fact that I was on "their job" because I had more time with the company, thus I got the 1st job offered a higher pay and I also got the choice of what hours I wanted to work.

They did the very minimum required to show me this job and most of what I did learn over the year plus that I worked it, I did so from my past experience of jobs, and 1 of my hobbies that just happened to be electronics, though in no way close to being computerized. Fortunately for me the company offered a buyout after I was on this job less than 2 years, and I couldn't get out of the place quick enough.

Just another story from the old spinster and what many like to call "another novella" from the blow-hard.

What I meant was that most of us here can get along with what we know now, I think most if not all have done pretty well adjusting in life. I'd hope we don't have to change much, but there are people that push the subject.

Thanks for your kind words regarding my "great accomplishments" in my youth!! You did the same as I am sure, as you wrote, that many others on this BB also have and you wish they would tell us about. Unfortunately, many individuals think telling "their stories" is an egotistical thing to do and they shy away from it. I find it interesting as I don't think there's anything wrong with getting to know someone better, due to their life experiences. However, there are those who resent and criticize those kinds of posts. So I doubt we will see anything like that other than the few who have already written a little bit about their experiences "back in the day," as they say.

I was never good at electronics, sound systems, and some of the other things you mentioned, which might sound odd because one may think the two should go together . . . computers vis-à-vis TVs, stereos. To me, they are two completely different types of technologies. Although I used to be able to set up a hardware computer system easily, my physical condition prevents that these days. But I was never able to set up a sound/stereo system, which is why I love my Bose!! Just plug it in . . . thumbs up for me!!

Just to bring you completely up to date, I am still good friends with several gals from my old workplace, and they tell me that although the client/word processing database I set up there is still being used, on-line tax return programs like TurboTax, etc., have reduced the firm's tax return business by half and getting less and less every year. So nothing lasts forever, which has always been my mantra. Actually the partners are all as old as dirt as I am, so I can't imagine the firm will continue on as big as it has been for too much longer. There are one or two younger partners now who may keep it going as a smaller enterprise, but the older guys will be gone in one way or another. It's November, in more ways than one.
