Ways to keep my QVC account very secure?

[ Edited ]

Hello. I have a lot of  holiday items in rented storage and I want to get rid of the things and stop paying for it. I want to hire someone to just clear it out and take it to the dump.

Ive had a habit of saving my QVC receipts over the years and have always kept them inside my house, however, I think I might have put some of the receipts inside of the boxes with the giant Xmas trees in storage and in the tubs with some of my expensive ornaments.

Neither my husband nor myself feel well enough to go through the stuff, especially to try to check inside with the big XMas trees.

I worry that whoever we hire could somehow get account information off any receipts and use this to order and ship to themselves or to others. I know all the receipts have my name and address and my member number. That wouldn't matter if whatever someone tries to order could only be shipped to my adrdress if there was a way of choosing that option online, and once chosen, could only be changed by logging in to my account.

When I check the information under my account there is no way to check off that I want to limit where anything is shipped to if I want to.

Any suggestions? We are not well and trying to go through everything for old receipts is too much for us.

I don't think they put anything that secure on the receipts, do they?  If your worried about the credit card you can have them send you a new one with a new number.

@spumoni99 @No, the credit card number isn't on the receipts but anyone could call and order. I think some older receipts might have the last four digits on them but I'm not sure.mI guess they would just have to say it's me calling. I guess I could remove the credit card number off my account and only put it back on after logging in to place any future orders and then remove the number each time. A person doesn't even have to know the credit card number the way it is now because the CS agents often ask will you be using your Visa? The othef problem with taking the cc# off and on is that I've a few things on Easy Pay.

Yes removing the credit card would really be the best way, its a pain but if your worried about it.  You might want to call to see if you can specify that orders only ship to your address.

Sorry you are both not feeling well enough for this job.  Things do get more difficult to take on, that's for sure.   Anyway, what I would do is most likely cancel my Q account, wait a while and then open a new one with new credit card info.  This way here the old receipts would not have current information except for possibly your address, but that can be found easily online anyway.  I wish you luck with your project, perhaps hire some high school kids to do this for you?  I would suggest calling your local school dept and inquire.

@LindaSal @They would still have my name and a credit card.

Thinking about the receipts QVC has used over the years, they are not secure at all. They should have used a customer number that a member can have changed when they want or a way for customers to verify shipping to other addresses not listed online and only used after logging into your account the way Amazon does.

There is a box on the members shipping info page that can be checked that says make this the default shipping address but it doesn't say anything about what this would mean if I checked it.

Spoiler

@Mindy D    Why don't you donate your stash to a nice charity?  I'm guessing many places would love to have a beautiful big tree and some nice ornaments and decor.

I don't see anything on the QVC invoice that would enable someone to access your account.  Your customer number is Xed out except for the last 4 digits.  Your name and address are listed of course but the other info is specific to the order that was shipped, i.e. item number, order and package numbers.

I just toss these things in the trash.

@Mindy D - You and your husband have a lot to deal with, but at least you have each other.

If I were you, I would email the Social Team and ask their advice. I have had good advice, where they are helpful, and not so good advice, where they haven't responded. But when they do they do right away.

I think in your situation one of them will get right back to you with good advice.

@Kachina624 @All someone has to do is call and place a telephone order and say it's me. Maybe CS would not take these orders unless they come from the phone number linked to your account or else they then ask you to answer the security questions linked to the account.  I don't know, but that would sure be a good way to stay safe with the orders. I had only one phone number linked to my account, my landline, but after all the disasters, I just added my husband's cell too. Lots of receipts use to have a full member number on them. I have no idea what that information would do.

Don't you have alerts set up on your credit cards to notify you as soon as a purchase is made?   I wouldn't want all those receipts just sitting out in the trash with my name and address on them.  I would shred them first
