We live in a gated community on the main street and as we drive back and forth down our street anyone who is outside always smiles and waves like they know us. Now we are on vacation in our camper and this is SOP for campgrounds - everyone always stops whatever they are doing to smile and wave to each and every stranger who drives down the street. While i do find this to be a pleasant thing to do I really wonder why this is - why do people stop what they are doing to smile and wave a greeting to perfect strangers? I don't see people doing this if you just drive through a regular(non gated) neighborhood so why does everyone feel compelled to do it in our gated community and in every campground I have ever been to?
