Watching a show on Prime: about mountain climbing

I don't understand what motivates people to do this.  Of course, I don't get rock climbing either.  At this age, it doesn't matter, LOL.  I wouldn't have done those things in my 20's. LOL

But this mountain climbing looks so hard on the body.

Yeah, to those who can do that and if it's a goal for them, good luck.

How about those who jump off high places and wear that body suit to fly down to the ground.  Guess it's like parachuting.

Any daredevils here?

@qualitygal - Not too long ago I watched Alex Honnold who is a free solo rock climber on the Nat'l Geo channel, holy moly, this guy is a legend!  Have you heard of him?

If you are ever on you tube, watch the videos of the people climbing Mt Everest! Like you, I don't know what motivates people to do this! There certainly is no room for error!

I like to read about some of these climbing feats, but would never have had an interest in trying.  A really good book I read some years ago was called "Into Thin Air".  A mesmerizing book.

Not my thing either.  Afraid of heights.  Takes so much skill, knowledge and strength to do it safely.

I have gone ziplining, rappelling, parasailing, white water rafting, skiing, snorkeling in the Bermuda Triangle to see shipwrecks, snowshoeing, horseback riding, ice skating, dog mushing, hot air balloon flying, swimming in a cenote, etc., and I have a dozen more activities on my to-do list.

@FancyPhillyshopper

I want to be you when I grow up! I learned to fly a four-seater Cessna when I was 17. I wanted to skydive so bad I could taste it. My dad was going to teach me but my mother said absolutely not. Dad didn't win that one. I lived on top of a horse from 9 or 10 till 18 but I don't consider that a risky sport. I took my horse swimming in Northlake ( close to Dallas).  My parents told me not to take him swimming. His bridle had  roping reins attached. They are not split reins. I had him out there too long.  He was tired and got his feet tangled in the reins and he drowned.  I went down with him several times as I was trying to take his bridle off but the last time he didn't come up. I got off of him but couldn't get the reins  because he was thrashing about so much. I was trying to take his bridle off so he could swim to shore.

That is not a memory I wanted to think about.

Just fun and games until someone else has to risk their life to rescue your stupid behind.  My take on rock and mountain climbing, etc.

I watched an interview on TV. A skier was skiing on an area that was posted that there were possible avalanches in the area.

They asked the skier why he was skiing there because he might cause an avalanche. The skier replied that he had a gadget that would let the rescuers know where he was if there was an avalanche. And the rescuers would be able to have no trouble finding him to rescue him.
