Re: Wary of donating to charities.

@Allthingsgirly67

Your recollection of a shopper buying whole filet mignon on food stamps brings back a story my MIL told me years ago.

In the early 70's, my BIL was laid off from the mines and struggling to provide for his family of 5.  My MIL offered to go to Kroger with him, and pay for his groceries.  What she expected him to buy, and what he put in the cart for her to pay for were very different things!  I can just imagine her reaction when her son picked up packages of center cut pork chops, when she bought assorted, he chose sirloin roasts when she bought chuck, and he chose ground chuck when she bought ground beef.  My MIL paid for the food, but she only offered to do that one time!

Regardless of thru family or charity handouts, needy people will take whatever they can get for free.  I told my MIL she needed to be thankful her son did the shopping instead of his wife, or it would've been MUCH worse!

@Allthingsgirly67 You are making a lot of assumptions and judgements about people you know nothing about or their circumstances. I'm sure you don't want to be judged for the mistakes you've made in your life and have them discussed by strangers online. A little kindness and acceptance can go a long way.

Sometimes wealthy people volunteer,but I know what you mean. I always judge women by their finger nails, if they have a manicure I wonder where they got the money.

Hubbs says none of those people own their car. There is a lot of debt.

FYI Not every woman with a manicure has paid for it.  I do my own nails - always have - and my nails look darned good.

I'm talking about professional manicures,not a bottle of nail color from "The Buck Stops Here" Store. I think it is easy to tell the difference.

Nope.  Maybe that's what your nails look like when you do them yourself, but some of us buy good polish and have good eye/hand coordination.  And take all of the necessary steps to get good results.  Geesh!

That old urban myth again.  Years ago, we'd hear those stories about food stamp people driving off in late model Mercedes-Benzs or shopping in their mink coats.  I don't know what you imagine you saw but it didn't happen then, isn't happening now.

"Good" polish! Most nail color formulas are pretty much the same.

Re: Wary of donating to charities.

Regarding the posts where women were observed wearing "furs" and "jewelry" while grocery shopping and paying with food stamps:  perhaps the furs were fake and the jewelry is costume, and all were purchased at a Goodwill store.
