Walmart $45 million settlement: Who is eligible for payment and how to submit a claim

Some Walmart customers may be eligible for a portion of the $45 million settlement resulting from a class-action lawsuit against the world’s largest retailer. According to official documents, the company was accused of overcharging customers who purchased what is referred to as “weighted goods”, or products marked with unit prices according to their weight.

Walmart $45 million settlement: Who is eligible for payment?

Any person who has purchased products sold by weight in any of the Walmart stores in the United States and Puerto Rico between October 19, 2018 and January 19, 2024, is eligible to receive compensation.

These products include everything from beef, chicken, pork, turkey and seafood to oranges, tangerines and grapefruit weighed in plastic or mesh bags. On the official site of the agreement, you can consult the complete list of products.

Everybody in this form seems worried about the Walmart employees losing their jobs due to self checkout. Do you want to know what harm's employees? Walmart having to pay out huge sums of crazy lawsuits to people. That's what causes us to not get raises and have other pay incentives dropped.

Despite news outlets saying Walmart agreed to the settlement...

"According to the settlement website, Walmart denies any wrongdoing or liability in the case."

@Foxxee,  that is why it is called a settlement not a judicial finding.

@Marp

Yes,  I'm questioning why Walmart isn't attempting to prove they are innocent taking it to a judicial ruling.

That would probably be almost everyone in the US.

 No way they could ever determine who should collect any settlement money; they think you should bring in a receipt for hamburger you bought there five years ago? Just hiring someone to deal with the claims will cost them a fortune; what a waste of time.

Don't get too terribly excited. Unless you have about 5 years of receipts, you are looking at a cash card with about 5.00 or 10.00 dollars.

But still, if you are involved, do file.

I filed in a class action lawsuit againt a reporting credit bureau.  Had to do with a home loan.  I got $240 after the lawyers took half & it took a year to get a check.  I filed in another like this Walmart one regarding a product & never heard a thing🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Corporate greed is the name of the game. Price gouging takes place from little to huge things.

Big corporations are showing record high profits even with lawsuits. A lawsuit this size for Walmart is like pennies to us when looking at their profits.

A big corporation will scr** an employee anytime, for any reason. Their one and only interest is profit. I worked for an international corp for nearly 40 years and was high enough up the ladder to know what really went on.

How people can remain naive about big corporations, especially given today's politics, boggles my mind.
