I must be a recluse lol. I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA too, never heard of them.  They do look good and fun!!  It would be fun at a party.  I wonder if we should remove some of the chips so it's not so stuffed and stuff falls out. Has anyone actually made them at home.  I want to try.  I have organic tortilla chips, with no added salt. I would use ground chicken, or beans instead of meat. But I'm gonna try when my granddaughters come next week. They are 19 and 28, and always up for food and stuff like this

@shoekitty the 'chili billys' that I mentioned in my previous post:

They were served in those small bags of Fritos: the bag was laid down flat & a slice was made in the middle, almost top to bottom & side to side. Some people sliced an X.

A scoop of meat or sometimes chili was put on top of the Fritos, then shredded cheese. At our concession stand, there were bowls of chopped onion, tomatoes, pickled jalapenos, etc. for people to add if they wanted to.

A napkin & a plastic fork was provided w/ each order.

Muddling through...

I don't make them but I think it's made to be able to walk around with or eat while in the bleachers/stands at sporting events where there is a concession stand.  It's just a newish twist on Frito pie that is served in the pkg like this.  They were doing this when I was in school.  I live about 12 miles from the world's largest "flea" market in Canton, TX.  This would be a prime example of a "walking" food.

I'm wondering...is Frito Pie more of a regional thing?  I thought everyone knew about Frito Pie.  I don't/can't eat it anymore because corn is my diabetic arched enemy but we used to have it for dinner occasionally and it was always a hit with kids.  At home you don't need to use the bag.  Fritos on bottom, onions, chili, mustard and cheese.

Do you go to your state fair or any trade shows or sporting events?

We were making Frito Chili Pie in the mid 1960s.  I am not sure people were making it in bags then, but we used chili poured over Fritos and topped with shaved lettuce, diced onions and grated cheddar cheese.

We made it pretty often with our own home-made chili!

Served at home, you don't need the bag unless you just want to.  Same thing with a plate...Fritos, chili, onions, mustard and cheese (or whatever you like).  It's about the only thing I like mustard on.

I mean we make home made nachos all the time.  I make my own chips, we do beans, both refried and whole black beans , diced tomato, avacado, diced onion and green onion, black olives, cheese melted on chips in oven before I pile on the stuff.  My husband like the sour cream, I don't. But these are dinner worthy

I have always put Fritos on bottom of home made chili!  I watch salt n fat now. But I do indulge now n then. I just like this idea of the nag. It looks fun, easy, and good
