I've been looking into a bit of WW2 history and it has struck me how much good was done by our troops abroad, good that had nothing to do with war but rather with kindness, even to the enemy.
I'm taken by what they did for children, including washing and feeding them in Japan and in Berlin. Helping a very old Japanese woman after the bombing in Japan. American flags raised in the Philippines by families in that area.
We are known around the world as decent people in a decent country, not barbarians. We fight back and, sure, there are bad apples, but we remain decent, good people... no matter who is in charge.
As a country, we do the right thing.
