Re: WOW, funeral costs now a days

If my husband were still alive we  would be married 55 years. His Mom passed away one year after we were married so after the funeral the cemetary owner came here while I was at work and talked him buying buriel lots. So there I was no money for bills or food but I was making payments on buriel lots. So when he passed away 20 years ago There was a place for him but the lot back then cost $350.  and I had to pay the cemetary owner  $525 plus $200 on the spot or they would not open the grave. So that plot actually cost me $925.

Re: WOW, funeral costs now a days

We paid about $12000 for my fathers funeral in 2001 but we had to buy a 3 grave sites, and we had my brother (who died as a baby) exhumed and moved to the state we live in now. Planning a funeral is difficult. A couple of years after dad died, I asked mom about pre-planning and she will have no part of it. So I guess I will be planning again, if mom dies before me. At that time, if it comes, I am going to look at Costco for Caskets. It sounds funny but I think a lot of money can be saved there.

I bet our local funeral home would not allow a casket to be brought in to their funeral home that was purchased else were, they would want the money for the casket.

Apparently there are federal regs that prevent funeral homes from denying you the opportunity to provide your own casket. Amazing! Read that on the Costco website.

Maybe its the inner archaeologist in me or something but does someone want to be buried in a Costco casket?

I'd at least have to be assured that all the tags are off of it before hopping inside. Smiley LOL

Nope.

I always wanted to be buried in my car.......but you have to buy up a whole section of the graveyard, and it's too pricey...........

@surfk and all: surfk, you have given me some much needed giggles this morning, but I want to say in all seriousness, I agree with you.

Re: WOW, funeral costs now a days

Many years ago my grandmother and grandfather bought my parents their burial plots and paid for their funerals.  I thought it a bit odd as a gift (my mother was an only child) but with mom and dad now 86 and 87 it means so much to them and to we three grandchildren.  Grandma and Grandpa really were looking out for her...and really, for us to.  Their thoughtfulness spans 3 generations.  What a wonderful gift to us all....something we won't have to worry about in our time of grief when that day comes.

My dad is 88 years old, and as much as I hate the thought, he will be gone one day.

I just looked at a local creamatory, and their prices aren't too bad.
