@DiAnne Just FYI. What most people think of as an "oil well" is a drilling rig. Big thing looks like the Eiffel Tower and usually lit up like a Dhristmas tree at night. . . and yes, they sometimes are unsightly, but that are drilling rigs and will soon be gone.
After that, there's usually not much to see. Maybe a pumping jack, which usually isn't too big.

Cell phone towers take the prize for ugly tall structures. Unfortunately, they're often found in populated areas (ugh), sometimes disguised as a pine tree (double-ugh!). Phone companies should seek advice from wind mill designers.
