It's World Lion Day. We'll all remember one particular lion, but he has reminded us that not only all lions, but all wildlife, matter, and are irreplaceable.

WE are the voices for the animals and WE must speak up for all of these precious creatures in order to save them!

I have always been an animal lover, domestic and wild, and I've always been aware of endangered species and conservation, but it's hit me hard the last 10 years or so that time really is running out - that's no longer just a pat phrase. Wonders have been done for pandas, now some wonders need to be pulled off in Africa before it's too late.

Our Albuquerque zoo lion, who had a beautiful black mane, died today.  He was diagnosed with lymphoma in June.

Kachina624, Thank you for posting this.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —Cosmo the Lion lost his battle with lymphoma and died overnight at the ABQ BioPark Zoo.
Cosmo was diagnosed with lymphoma in June and died at the age of 18. Lions usually live about 16 years in zoos.
Mammal department supervisor Shelly Dicks said Cosmo was a very popular zoo resident.

“Cosmo was a big favorite with all the staff and visitors,” Dicks said. “This is a hard one for the staff. We're really going to miss him.”
Cosmo came to Albuquerque in 2004 from the Exotic Feline Rescue Center in Indiana. The center saved Cosmo from a drug cartel, which used him as a guard animal.

RIP Cosmo.
