Our winter stuff hasn’t started yet in northern Connecticut.  But it’s on its way, as sanding strucks have been out on the roads.  As retirees, we can just stay at home and not go out.  However, there is our DD and DSIL, our DS and DDIL, our two GC, etc.  I hope and pray for all to be warm and safe, and thoughts and prayers for our California friends.

@PamfromCT......where does your family reside?  Yes, those of us that are retired can just stay put till it's all gone.......

OMGosh.....those fires are just awful.  Feel so sorry for those folks.  They just said the number of missing has doubled since yesterday at this time.  It is now 297.  And I heard it reported that it is almost impossible to identify some of the deceased.  Yes, lots of prayers for those folks.

Hi @ShowMe, Thanks for your concern.  DH and I live in northern CT, a suburb of Hartford.  DS and DDIL, plus two GC live about 1/2 south, while DD and DSIL live in mid-CT.  Of course, we are such a tiny state!  We have about 10 inches of snow, but of course the approaching rain will make everything a big freezing mess.  It’s the ice that is so dangerous, as you know.

How are you doing?  I know you have had so many health challenges and pray you are ok.  It sounds like you are!

Yes, the California fires are such an epic disaster for our country.  Like so many I think, it is so frustrating to feel so helpless with so many in such need.  The death toll keeps rising, and with so many missing.  All most of us can do is donate and pray.  My parents taught us, “There but for the grace of God, go I.”

Please let let me know how you are doing.

Re: WINTER ADVISORY WARNING

[ Edited ]

@PamfromCT.........Good morning, and thanks for your concern.

Hope you didn't get frozen in with the rain coming down on all that snow.  No matter how close your family is, you still worry when they have to be out and about in nasty weather.

Yes, those fires have ruined life for so many folks.  Can't believe how many folks are still missing.  Believe they said a while ago on the news it is up to 631 now.  Have often wondered how they figure out how many are missing....and how many did't survive.....  It is tragic.  Can't imagine what this does to a person that just had to leave their home with nothing but the the clothes they had on their back.  Living in a shelter is also so sad.  You know many of those folks are having a tough time just trying to make it through each day they are there....and not knowing what lies ahead for them.  Yes, donations will help, but they do need our prayers too.

It is a beautiful day here.  Believe the current temp is about 38 now.  Supposed to warm up each day, and most of next week it is to be in the mid 50s.  Our snow should be gone soon.

Yes, I am ok.  And yes, it has been pretty challenging to say the least.  Just wish I had more strength now.  Have lost a lot of muscle mass, and am trying to gain it back.  But it is slow moving.  Like yesterday when I changed my bedding.  That takes so much out of me.  Then last evening when Jeanne did my laundry I had her put the folded clothes on the guest bed because I didn't have it in me to put them away.  Will be doing that off and on today.  Boy, when I hit the bed last night, it didn't take me long to go to sleep.  And slept like a baby.  Boy, when I think of what I used to could do in a day, and now when I accomplish just one good thing a day......  it ain't easy.  One of my biggest fears is falling....whether it be in my apartment or if I am out.    I thank God daily for what I am able to do and for those that do help me out.  I am very blessed.

Hope you have a wonderful day.

This morning I heard a meterologist from a Tampa news station refer to a forecasted overnight low of 58 degrees as "frigid". I just about spewed coffee all over my computer screen. 58 degrees is "put on a sweatshirt and close the windows if you feel cold", but it sure as heck isn't "frigid". He needs to spend January in Michigan!

@ShowMe- I did have boots and I managed to make it to the subway by walking very slow since I had left knee replacement back in 2016 I am super cautious or I work from home if is too bad out.

The storm itself was worst then they predicted for us here in NYC.  People were stuck in traffic for 4+ hours!  A lot of people wound up sleeping in their cars because the traffic on the highways were at a standstill.  It was so cold too and windy a lot of trees and or limbs are on the ground because we have gotten so much rain this year....California could have really used all the rain we had.

Safe and sound today the sun is shinning bright.  Definitely the calm after the storm but a lot of cleanup in the works.

@Luvitorleaveit1.....Well, glad you made it home safe and sound.  Did see on TV this am the weather you were having.  Am sure you are working from home today.

Fortunately, our weather folks hit us right on the head.  They predicted 5 to 8 inches for here, and where I live we got 5 1/1......  It has warmed up considerably and a lot has melted.  My car is still covered in it because the sun doesn't hit it where I park....on the north side.

Yes, and when the trees fall, there is always the risk of them hitting power lines.  Therefore, power outages.  And yes, there will probably be a lot of cleaning up to be done.
