Re: WIND GUSTS OF 200 MPH. STORM SURGE UP TO 15 FT

Sigh . . . earlier today they showed footage of folks boarding up a bar in Abaco.  They all looked so very young and I would be surprised if they have been through something like this especially at this extreme scale.  I was just watching the waves that have started crashing on their shores but what struck me the most was the dense gray that was normally blue skies and sunshine when you looked out over the ocean.

Safe thoughts and prayers for those folks on Abaco . . . Heart

Have you seen the size of this monster? ....

Dorian is now a Category 5 hurricane, the most powerful kind, according to the National Hurricane Center.

@SoX  this is what churns my stomach.  This thing is a complete monster and the kids that were "boarding up the place" clearly didn't have a clue as what may be coming at them.  My hope is that the segment I was watching was from several hours ago and these folks got a clue about how serious the situation is.

Will continue watching the news and see what happens. Mother Nature sure keeps us on our toes at times like this. Wish they could forecast more accurately and sooner, but I guess that is not always feasible. Sounds like this will be a days long event.

I would definitely evacuate if told to do so.

I would never stay on an Island or the Coast!  Maybe they don't have a place to go.  Surely there are some "hurricane proof" buildings on the Island.  I hope so!

I am an hour from the coast but close enough to get the heavy winds and rain, just not the storm surge. I made my trip to the grocery store to pick up food items that don’t require refrigeration and water this a.m. I will re-fill up my gas tank first part of next week.

I think filling your gas tank is a priority if you are along the east coast.

My heart goes out to the people on Abaco Island and the Bahamas.

It seems likely that mainland will be spared the worst; but they are not "out of the woods" yet; and I hope the people on the coast will take ALL possible precautions.

Do the math.
