I think the only time I was ever offended was when I received a Mikasa serving tray which was really nice, I thought...only problem was I gave it to her the year before....if you regift, at least remember to write down who gave it to you in the first place!

I remember the Christmas when I was 17 years old and we (my Mom was a single mom and my dad was a dead beat...but that's another story) were unspeakably poor. My Mom made slightly above the amount we could receive assistance.
We decided to make homemade mini-loaves of fruitcake, about 15 of them, to give as gifts. My mom and I became hysterical as we wondered if the fruitcakes would petrify over many generations from being re-gifted over many years.
I still wonder about those fruitcakes, which we wrapped and gave. It was the shared fun w/my Mom, even while so financially broke that makes that Christmas season a bittersweet memory for me.

Definitely being regifted... it happened to me. When you see wrapping paper taped on ur gift that was given to me in a gift bag.....I was offended, but kept my composure.... what else can you do?

I don't get the regifting thing. Who has enough closets that they can keep items around they don't want?
If I have something (new) that I have decided I don't want, I offer it to friends or family in case they might want it. If they don't want it, I give it to Goodwill.
I would never think of wrapping it up again and giving it to someone for Xmas.

I wasn't offended, just a little speechless..about 5-6 years ago, my work group planned to go out to dinner before the holidays, then someone suggested a gift exchange..we drew names, but the giver was to be anonymous..when I opened my gift, it was a head scarf! Now it wasn't too long ago & we were all nurses...it was a pretty silky scarf, but it was a head scarf! Someone said this was "a blast from the past" & we all had a good laugh..
A few years later I found a lovely, older lady to pass it to (not a regift) & she adored it!

A "drudgery" gift, such as an iron, vacuum, power scrubber, microfiber dusters, etc.. Lol.

You reminded me of something! My late husband once bought me a scale for Christmas. It was not long after we were married (and when I was actually normal weight). Ha!
He was so upset when I started crying. I said, "Am I fat?" He said, "NO! You said you wanted one". I said, "But I was going to buy it". He said, "What difference does it make if I bought it or you did". Ha!
We were both 19 years old way back then. Believe me over the years he more than made up for that scale purchase!
We got to the point where he'd take me shopping for my birthday on that day and I could get anything I wanted. That scale more than paid for itself! Ha!

@fortune back in the day I used to order several group gifts from QVC for my work friends (they used to have nice cards with Christmas CD's which everyone always loved). As I am starting a new job on Monday I think I willl have to take a pass on this "gift" . . . oh goodness . . . ![]()
