Re: WHAT GIFTS WOULD YOU BE OFFENDED TO RECEIVE?

Some people I know give gifts that deliver their negative message, "I didn't take the time to bother with you!."  You are fortunate if you don't know any like that.  They exist, believe me!

To mstyrion 1:  Maybe the word EMBARRASSED to receive is a better choice.

Re: WHAT GIFTS WOULD YOU BE OFFENDED TO RECEIVE?

I wouldn't say offended, but I'd be a little hurt if someone close to me gave me candy or nuts. I'm diabetic and deathly allergic to tree nuts.  They say that it's the thought that counts, but I have to wonder how much thought goes in to a gift that will make someone sick?  Or worse.

I obviously don't feel this way when it is a gift from a neighbor or someone I know only casually - they wouldn't necessarily know. But those close to me certainly DO know.   I wouldn't be offended, but I would feel some hurt knowing that literally zero thought went into it. I'd much rather receive a sincere hug.

I think it would be something that I knew had been re-gifted. I am not big on re-gifting in general.

I have heard of gifts like this called gifts of spite, I agree. If you are a bad gift giver, start paying attention, it's not that hard. Oh and buy a gift that the person would like, not what you think they should have.

That last sentence really resonates with me. My mother often bought me things she thought I "should" want or "should" like rather than what I'd told her I did actually want. And my sister always gave me items of clothing two sizes too small.

Stuff we don't use or need. Most stuff we receive goes in the trash, in the attic or to the Salvation Army. We have told all on our gift lists we don't have room for any more "stuff". Buy us something that we can use & discard when it's gone or a $5 gift card if that's all you can afford. We don't want any more chia pets, ove gloves, pictures, throws, or knick knacks.

I would take that Epilator over some of the things I receive. LOL!!!

@Moonchilde, When people say it's the thought that counts, it usually means little or no thought was put into the gift. LOL.  Sometimes you want to ask the gifter  " Have you met me ?? "
