I grew up in the 1940s and when I didn't want to eat my veggies - my mother would say, "they're starving in Europe". To this day, I can't throw out food --- or anything else.

I had an aunt who during the depression,saved the crumbs from bread she sliced in an envelope and fed it to the birds. We just don't realize how lucky we are in this country these days.
