MathisFan wrote:@dooBdoo Good idea about closing threads to additional comments. Personally, I don't understand the big deal about bumping posts.
While it is fairly benign, it has always been considered a form of trolling.
One thing that would help all the rest of us would be if they had it like it was before the new board last year, in that you could see the date of the OP BEFORE you opened a thread. So, if you were paying attention, you could know right away if it was a current conversation.
Some of them are bumped like that by trolls, for the express purpose of creating new contention with the given subject of an old, dead thread.

If it's not allowed to respond to an old thread, why are they still on the forum? I don't understand how this works. Is bumping a thread different from responding? Again, this is why the date of the thread should be posted on the thread title page under the OP's name so you don't waste your time responding and get proofed because the thread is old. Not trying to start any controversy, I am truly not understanding why a thread would be on the forum (not marked locked or moved) and you are not allowed to post to it. TIA for answers.

Thanks! @MathisFan and @SunValley, Regarding bumping, it's considered a violation on most forums, and the main reason is that threads are supposed to move up to the top if the community is interested in continuing the discussion. One person isn't supposed to decide to keep moving a topic up -- as @chickenbutt said, it's considered "trolling." You might call it "good etiquette" or "good netiquette" to leave older threads alone and start a new one if you want a topic discussed. Also, as I mentioned before it's really rather inconsiderate to the original poster of the thread since they might not want their topic to move back up after 3 or 4 years have passed. I noticed when this new platform launched it also unlocked all the closed threads... so those which the moderators previously had decided shouldn't be continued now are open for all to bump up and resume. (Another glitch in the new platform.)

Yeah, on the vein of 'embarrassing' I've seen some threads bumped that were posted by people who were having awful problems at the time they started the thread, or maybe something medical or mental health-wise and it's extremely rude to bring something like that back to the forefront, a year or more down the road. If I were that OP, I wouldn't want to see that AT ALL!
I rarely start threads on this board for a variety of reasons, but that would embarrass me for sure.

@chickenbutt@dooBdoo thank you. Your responses make perfect sense to me. I certainly don't want to engage in trolling behavior and will heed your advice. Thanks!

What's kinda/sorta embarrassing to me is this:
I open a thread which interests me.
I begin reading all the responses.
II happen upon one post & I think,
"OMG! That's EXACTLY what I think, as well!!!"....then I "look to the left" and it's me! I responded to this 3-4 yr old thread but forgot! I KNEW I liked her! Ha

@SunValley, You're welcome! And in no way would I ever think you were engaging in trolling behavior.❤️ I failed to add that I do agree it would help in many ways if the website could be changed to make the date/time of the original post more prominent and quickly seen. Numerous posters requested this back when the new platform was launched -- and several times since then -- and the lack of response makes me think that option isn't going to be available. Another reason they really need to close the older threads so they can't be bumped.

@SunValley - if you see the latest post in a thread where a poster simply types in the word *Bump* and contributes nothing else, or states "I'm bumping this up" or "I'm bumping this thread because I want people to respond" - that is trolling behavior - posting on a long-dead thread *for the sole purpose* of putting it in view again, usually for trollish purposes.
If someone comes upon an old thread and has a question or comment directly related to the topic, that contributes in some way to the topic, that's different.
It would solve a lot of extra work for the moderators if they did simply close a thread for commenting after, say, 2 weeks. But there are quite a few things that could be done on the forums that aren't - and most of the time it's not a question of moderators' wants, but tools that QVC declines to provide for their own reasons.

Thank goodness. I would have been up all night worrying about it. Really. I mean it. Standards are good. Without standards old ladies would be running amok. Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria! Again, thank you.
