This ingredient XYLITOL - is an artificial sweetener and is found in foods that could be given to dogs - eg: peanut butter, etc.
It has been checked out on Snopes and the information is correct. I am sending the link. Please check it out to make sure your pet(s) are not getting any of the foods listed.

Old news but good to remind people. I don't think this stuff is widely used anymore.

Unfortunately it is still frequently used in over-the-counter children’s medicine and because those are reduced doses people often use them for pet meds, too. It is always good to remind people about that sweetener because many do not know and others forget due to its use in only certain products. It is not a familiar word to see so it does not register as quickly that it is highly poisonous to pets. Good to share the word @sophiamarie!

@sophiamarie Good to remind everyone. Theres always a new crop of owners to educate. Xylitol is still used in many "Sugar free" gums and snack foods and Fido isn't above licking the cup clean. Always read the ingredient list.

Thank you!
I made reference to this on a post in the Beauty forum the other day because someone was discussing a skincare product that contained xylitol. In response, another poster tried to ridicule me and say I had too much time on my hands.

It certainly never hurts to remind people of the dangers to our pets. I mean, even with all the warnings on the internet, tv, from vets, etc, people STILL give their dogs chocolate, grapes, raisins, and other toxic food.
My MIL still feeds her dogs these things and tells me that she's fed her other dogs these things in the past and they never died from them so she just thinks it is me being overly cautious. I've sent her articles and everything and she still poo poos it. She even gave her dog a whole raw onion to eat one time and thought it was funny that he ate the whole thing. Geez. ![]()

Some people (usually older folks, it seems) are set in their ways and think it's ok to give their dogs anything. My in-laws would also poo poo me when I would say that the dogs shouldn't eat certain foods.
They used to give their dog a full sized candy bar (like a hershey bar or snickers) every night before bed as a treat! Can you imagine?!

@Citrine1 Dogs often get sick to their stomachs when they eat chocolate. Too bad your MIl's dog didn't barf all over her house.

@JeanLouiseFinch LOL - There's always one in every crowd, right???? If she took the time to read and respond to your post, then maybe she's the one with too much time on her hands.
