Vintage. What are your thoughts on that?

Last year, I watched a show where a woman had a shop with vintage things in it. Some prices were really up there. I just found it interesting, but I either didn't save it to record or it's not on now.

Are you into vintage clothing, etc.? If so what do you like best about it?

Not clothing but I love antiques and I have some vintage linens - some I inherited and some I found myself. I love that they remind me of when life was simpler when I was a child.I have a lace tablecloth from the Eisenhower white house.

Was this on the Q, do you mean?

I love vintage everything! I do not have the means to purchase vintage but I've adored this stuff from the time I was a very young child. Family members referred to it as "old stuff" or "junk". I love old dishes, glassware, linens, jewelry, clothing --- you name it ---. I love to browse in antique shops, so-called "junk" shops, and other second-hand stores in case there would be a small treasure or trinket I could manage!

I have an antique mission style Stickley buffet - inherited from MIL - and I love to open it up and see all the pretty vintage linens I store in there. Pretty prints and colors. When we have company for dinner I love to use my vintage linens - everyone loves them. Most of mine are from the 40's and 50's. Sadly, many of mine are starting to show wear after all these years and I no longer have the means since retiring to buy many new ones. When they are in good condition and not stained they are pricey.

I like the look of some vintage things, but that's not really my style.

Don't care for vintage clothing, but love other things. I started about 15+ years ago with an antique wood sideboard, I paid too much but I didn't care - I love it still! Then started going to flea markets and antique shows, and have some great collections, including a beautiful old "shabby" handmade large yellow painted cabinet with glass doors on top, an antique oak dresser that was my best find ever at a yard sale, a corner cabinet made from very old heart pine wood and painted. Tole trays, vintage linens, quilts, you name it. I love geraniums, and have a collection of paintings, watercolors, tole trays, etc. with geranium motif. Not into "fine" antiques - love painted vintage furniture, etc. I'm finally getting around to changing over my entire house to a cross of cottage/shabby chic/antique whatever, but not "country" as a lot of people think of it......Love to go through the specialty magazines about using and/or re-purposing flea market finds. Like Angelpuppy, I love to browse in antique shops, junk shops, thrift stores, and go to flea markets -- you never know what you might find! This is my "therapy" for the more difficult parts of my life.Wink{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Re: Vintage. What are your thoughts on that?

I don't like vintage clothes, but anything else - YES!

I use Buffalo China restaurantware plates I got at Salvation Army for 10 cents each...at least 30 years ago. Not one has ever broken!

Most of my kitchenware is from junk shops or estate sales...at lot of my furniture is too (just not upholstered pieces like sofas).

I prefer to re-use items than to buy new stuff from China.

Several years ago, I got a Steuben glass ice bucket at an estate sale. It was filled with beautiful, big seashells, - the kind from Sanibel.

It was just $5 - last day of the sale. The clerk offered to throw out the seashells for me. I told her NO WAY. Someone lovingly collected those shells many years ago (the owner of the house was a 98 year old widow). I wanted to save the shells that brought her happiness and reminded her of good times (good karma).

I place the bucket, shells and all, by my front door every summer.

Not clothes, but anything else yes. I shop vintage linens, quilts, bakeware, tools, baby toys, etc. Both my bed frames are vintage iron from the 30's & 40's & dresser. I look for 1940-1960's.

Stickley furniture is GREAT. I used to sell them advertising and have been to their plant in Manlius many times.

You have a real treasure.

Re: Vintage. What are your thoughts on that?

I like old wood (furniture) a lot and have numerous pieces. I don't think I might like vintage clothing, however. I tend to just like what I like with no regard for whether or not it's 'in', or WAS in. Whatever I like is just because it is aesthetically appealing to my eye.
