Soap and water mostly. I disinfect some of my laundry items with a disinfecting product made by Lysol. I wipe down my countertops with 70% isopropyl alcohol if I have to, usually after I have placed something on my counter that isn't clean...for example my shopping bags. I use a vacuum with a hepa filter. I have a hepa filter in my furnace. All of these things reduce particles in the air...some of which may contain germs. I take off my shoes before entering my house and I wipe my dogs paws with a wipe when we get home from our walks.

So it's not just one thing that I do to stay clean, but several things to clean and prevent getting dirty.

I also use a steam cleaner and steam mop.

@tends2dogs - I don't know if ammonia kills germs.  The restaurant chain my daughter works for doesn't allow them to use toxic cleaning chemicals.  All their cleaning liquids need to be approved by the Quality Control Department.

Ammonia is not an EPA registered disinfectant.

I believe restaurants are not required to disinfect, except for certain areas like the bathroom and some other food surfaces. However they are required to sanitize surfaces with cleaning agents which may or may not disinfect but just reduce contaminants instead of killing them.

@goldensrbest

In another thread you mentioned that you use Odoban. Do you still use it and how is that working out for you? I'm thinking of purchasing some.

Does the Odoban bother your dogs? That would be my biggest concern. She doesn't like it when I spray anything in the air or use anything that has a smell to it....she leaves the room. @goldensrbest

I like vinegar on my french fries and fried fish. It's a Canadian/English thing.
