Re: Vinegar Saved My Rowenta Iron and My Waterpik

I use white vinegar as fabric softener and it works great. Clothes smell fresh and clean.

2gallons cost less than $5 at Sams Club. Much cheaper than regular softener.

Yes, my recipe is for dishwasher rinse like jetdry.  2T jetdry or the like, with 1cup white vinegar and the rest of the spray bottle is water.  I spray it on the shower everyday, but   wipe down the shower with a towel 3 days a week.  That's it, my shower looks great.

I use white vinegar to clean whenever I can. Makes ME feel clean to use it!

Why shouldn't we use vinegar on granite?

Thats one thing I've never cleaned is my iron. I've used mine for the past 25 years at least and have never cleaned it with vinegar. It works like a champ! I really think its how things are made now-a-days.

I don't know if I'm imagining this, but I slightly recall my mother (very, very occasionally) using a very slight bit of white vinegar diluted with water in her steam iron (many, many years ago).

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

Re: Vinegar Saved My Rowenta Iron and My Waterpik

As the smell of vinegar makes me gag, I'd buy a new iron before I ironed a towel with it.

I use distilled water in my Rowenta, and have no problems with clogging or spitting. My Waterpiks have burned out before they clogged.

I'm happy the OP was able to rescue her appliances.

Re: Vinegar Saved My Rowenta Iron and My Waterpik

I just thought of something:  Maybe instead of white vinegar in steam irons, use a tiny bit of vodka diluted with water ?  I haven't tried it, but since vodka is alcohol-based and doesn't have a strong odor..............Just a thought, as usual.
