Vet won't approve generic heart worm rx ordered online

For a number of reasons, I've decided to order my dog's monthly heartworm medicine online. I found a generic that has many 5-star reviews. Unbeknownst to me, when it came time to check out, I was required to get my vet's approval before they ship it to me.

I started the process early on to allow for shipping. It is getting close to her dose and I just received an email notifying me that the vet still hasn't approved my order.

I choose not to return to this particular vet because of her exorbitant fees. I am on a fixed income. The last trip to her office my dog was due a rabies shot - nothing else. I came out with a bill of $296.94. The vet tech saw the look on my face and explained her charges which were ridiculous. The charges for everything. For instance, she told me checking my dog's an*l glands is considered a "surgical procedure" because she has to use latex gloves. On the way home I realized that the groomer expresses her glands and she's not a vet! It's in the spa package and doesn't cost me extra. What she didn't tell me is that she charges $25 for that alone. Then she examined my dog's ears and charged me for that. She examined my dog's eyes - another fee. Tummy - another fee. You get the drift.

The final straw was when, during the examination, she told me that my dog was blind in the left eye. I have been treating her left eye w/Ocluvet ($70 for 15 ml) for over a year because she told me at the first visit that she was blind in the right eye!!! I told her that that was contrary to the information I had been given (by her - but didn't say that) and that I have been treating the left eye.

But wait! a couple of months ago she told me that my dog was blind in the right eye! I need to know what I'm working with and $70 a pop for eye drops is a dent in my budget.

I went online and got Ocluvet for $44 for the exact same size bottle.

Back to my initial dilemma - should I book with another vet since she's not responding?
