Re: Very inspirational ceremony

I'm hopeful, too. Lila said it so well: "It has to start with everyone one of us and our kids and grandkids need to be taught by example. We can't be silent anymore or ignore it when we see it." For naysayers, search your hearts. First, we have to want it to be.

It was a nice speech, but that's about all it is at the end of the day.......words.

And words are cheap.

Change doesn't come by surrendering to what you might consider impossible. And like i said, first you have to want that change. Sadly, i see too many closed hearts here.

And how long has it been since the "I have a dream" speech?

Are we anywhere close to that dream?

Nope.

We're not.

Pretty words makes us feel good.

Reality s*cks.

Very inspirational day.

Maya Angelou's words from years past:

"History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again."

"We can learn to see each other and see ourselves in each other and recognize that human beings are more alike than we are unalike."

Few things reveal your intellect and your generosity of spirit—the parallel powers of your heart and mind—better than how you give feedback.~Maria Popova

Do I want things to get better?

Sure.

Do I think that things are just magically going to change because someone said some pretty words?

Nope, I don't.

Being realistic does not mean that one has a "closed heart".

We just see things as they really are, and don't wear rose colored glasses.

There will be an uproar from these idealistic people, the next time a cop shoots and kills an unarmed AA.

Those of us who are realistic will simply say, "See? We told you that nothing was going to change.".

Yes. And the motivation was very positive today.

Let's just see how long that motivation lasts.

Probably not very long, as real life sets back in.
