Yes, thank God. I'm fostering a 10 month old cat (Fizzy) that is missing some of its claws. Ripped right out of its paws while climbing down from a height, less than 20'.

@ Montana I’m glad he did it and didn’t lose his job. He weighed the risks and thought he could safely rescue the cat. Good for him!
WHAT?
You obviously never had to deal with OSHA.
I guarantee Verizon is currently preparing mandatory updated safety inservices for all field staff, and these inservice will be conducted and documented ASAP.

Those poles and power lines are property of the power company. If anything had gone wrong they'd have gone after Verizon too.
@x Hedge I’ve dealt with OSHA my whole career. We are still humans and have a right to make our own decisions and deal with the repercussions. I would have done exactly what he did and suffered the consequences.
If you had worked with OSHA and still think he did the right thing, I feel sorry for the company you worked for during that time. NO company would condone this persons actions and cannot imagine the risk you put that company in during your tenure. He is lucky to still have a job.

Of course, I would.
Anyone who has knowledge with animals can see the cat is safe,
where it is. If the owner truthfully called emergency,
Animal Control/Emergency would've been there shortly.
Not where I live. I'd have to find a rental center; rent a bucket truck or lift and do it myself or call a tree service. However, I am not necessarily disagreeing with you that he shouldn't have acted on his own without company sanction.

I think he did the right thing and I applaud him.
For those with only criticism, I'm glad you will never know one of my animals, and feel pity for any who come to you in need.
*** And, please, don't tag me with bombastic tales of the many you have saved, rescued, helped, funded.
Talk is cheap, walking the talk is a very different matter.

They have NO choice.

I understand.
But even in the smallest of small towns, one has to honor
live electric wires. Common sense dictates that.
The town’s police could’ve taken care of it in time.

Thanks for your response, @Mz iMac, but I'm not seeing the answer to my question in the linked article. I googled for more info, but came up with no explanation of why Animal Rescue didn't respond.

@sidsmom I am not disagreeing with you regarding his actions.
What I am saying is not where I live. It is a rare instance where our 5 person police force would help or even offer resource information. There is virtually no willingness to help domestic or wild animals in need unless you happen to come across a good soul.

I see cats climb up and down the old growth trees in my back yard, frequently (80-100'). Perhaps they have adapted; this kitty up a pole may have not had the ability.
