Venting about friends/family on Facebook

I think it's so disrespectful to put negative things like " I drove two hours to see my mom, and all she did was gripe and complain the whole time." I see so many posts like this on Facebook. Just think it's wrong to put people out there in a negative light on a public forum. Am I wrong to think that if you really want to see an improvement in that person, you should talk to them, not about them?
