Should doctors be able to refuse to continue to see you for those actual behaviors known to cause health problems?

It's no where in the same category! But there are doctors who do drop their patients for those behaviours.

The problem is not necessarily the child who has not been vaccinated, per se, but rather the havoc one prodromal chicken pox patient could wreak on a waiting room full of such.... An alcoholic or smoking patient lacks the ability to infect others .... Their non compliance is only SELF destructive....

Nope, the children are NOT refused health care...only by that one pediatrician. They can always go to another pediatrician who will treat them without their vaccinations. But hopefully those will become fewer and fewer as well.

If the kid has a life-threatening disease, don't you think the pediatrician already knows and is treating it?? And, if the kid gets sick later, the refusing pediatrician can't be sued because he/she already dropped them as a patient.

Really....trying to find loopholes to find the pediatricians at fault for any possible thing that might happen to an unvaccinated child is preposterous. Put the fault and blame where it REALLY belongs: right at the feet of the parents. Doctors are getting tired of these dummies triggering unnecessary outbreaks and life-threatening illnesses in their other patients.

Right. The letter specifically stated they were adopting the policy because it put other people and patients in their office at risk. It wasn't like they just wanted to punish the non-vaxers for their stupidity.

There has been a large outbreak at a major state univ here of mumps. Now measles and mumps are spreading in the area. Home schooled children reaching college age w no vaccines. Craziness. Is polio outbreak next??

YES...they can and they should be able to drop you if you as their patient are not complying with their health directives. You are nothing but a waste of their time at that point. If you are suffering with a smoking-related or alcohol-related disease that they are currently treating, and they tell you to quit, and you don't, then you are non-compliant and could/should be terminated from their care.

No different from a patient who refuses to take the doctor-prescribed drugs, or abuses them. Or takes them mixed with other drugs when told not to. Any and all of these actions are considered non-compliant and I wouldn't blame the doctor for dumping that patient.

So did my little sister, who had to be hospitalized. Her head hurt so badly she laid with her back to the door and she never stirred. She was in there for two weeks.

I don't blame this doctor one bit. When we had them, we had no choice to receive a vaccine, because there wasn't one. There wasn't one when my children were small, either, or they would have been vaccinated just like they were for measles, mumps and rubella.
