Had my most recent CT scan last week (I'm 4 years cancer free) and saw my oncologist today and I'm doing great!
Dr. C has been my cancer doc for 4 years and I just adore him. Sadly, he is retiring on 12/31 of this year. We had a lovely chat and I thanked him for all of his care and told him I think the world of him. He said some very kind things to me.
He said the new doc is a GI oncologist specialist and I am "good for a year"! I'm glad I have just 1 more year of port flushes, blood draws and likely 1 or 2 more CT scans but boy will I miss Dr. C.
I'm thankful for all the wonderful care I've gotten and continue to receive but gee I'll miss him!

What wonderful uplifting news!!!! I am so glad you are well !
I too am cancer free and I can relate to how you feel about your doctor. I see my doctor's assistant now but I do miss him and am grateful for all he did for me.
Keep up the good work and thanks for the happy post!!!!!!!!

Congratulations on your good health news!
I can relate to you missing your doctor who will soon retire. My family doctor who I’ve had for 15 years died suddenly about a month ago (I was always afraid he would retire since he was 76). I was so sad when I found out because he too was a wonderful caring doctor and after 15 years a friend.

HUGE congrats on your fantastic news!
I know it's so hard to lose a Dr. that you feel gave you such great care and was such a source of comfort.
I had a urologist who saved my life (literally) when I had kidney failure and congestive heart failure as a result, it broke my heart when I lost him as my Dr.

Cancer free, that is indeed wonderful news. It's always distressing when a doctor you have a longterm relationship with, a good rapport with, retires or moves. I imagine it's even more distressing when you have gone through cancer treatment with that doctor.

@Love my grandkids Sorry to hear that your favorite doctor is retiring. I've been through that a few times and it's always sad when you really like your doctor. Glad to hear the good news on your being cancer free 4 years! Awesome!

@Love my grandkids I know you were elated to get the good news so it's too bad you got the bad news too. Now you'll just have to train a new doctor.

To all of you: Thanks for all the nice comments. I'm sure the new doc will be fine but gosh I just love Dr. C. All the nurses who I met when I had chemo said they just love him. And he has such a wonderful sense of humor and is just a kind person. Told me about his 2 little grandsons today and will have more time to spoil them after this year, so being a grandma I can relate.

@Love my grandkids Great news re your health.
Know what you mean re your Dr. DH had Cancer and when we moved we still travelled up to 3 hours each way for his 6 mos. then annual check- ups as he really liked his Dr.
Now thankfully he has been clear 15 years so no more travelling! I am sure you will soon relate to your new Dr. Continue in good health.
