ENOCH, Utah (AP) — A Utah man fatally shot his five children, his mother-in-law and his wife and then killed himself two weeks after the woman had filed for divorce, according to authorities and public records.

Police also revealed during a Thursday news conference that officers investigated the 42-year-old man and his family a “couple of years prior,” suggesting possible earlier problems inside the household. Enoch Police Chief Jackson Ames did not elaborate.

Investigators were aware of the divorce petition but Adidas didn't know if it was the motivation behind the killings, Mayor Geoffrey Chesnut said.

I'm thinking it's rejection/hatred/ since the wife filed for divorce?

I'm betting it's not gang related or drug related.

Enoch, UT has beat Philly by 5 homicides thus far this year.

ETA:  They NEVER say what the cause was for the homicides in Philadelphia.  Reached over 500 in 2022.  Kids killed also.  But never any follow up.

Thank you for this update, @JaneMarple . When I first read about it, there were hardly any details but my gut went immediately to Domestic Violence. Nothing, NOTHING angers and frustrates me more than hearing about events such as this.  And yet...innocent people die because so many PROTECTIVE steps that could be taken/offered to the spouse and children are not (for a multitude of reasons). 

This will sound harsh to some: at least the %#$#@*$^ killed himself saving the taxpayer so much money on his worthless behalf. 

Sickens me what they experienced before it was over. Geez.....

It doesn't get any worse than that in my opinion. To shoot and kill 5 children !!  Killing his wife and mother-in-law was horrible but to take the life of his 5 innocent children ?? Just because his wife filed for divorce?  Nothing could be bad enough to take innocent lives. May his soul burn in hell !

This is beyond tragic; what a tortured soul he must have been, killing his entire family and himself. Just horrifying.

It's a shame that he didn't get mental health support. All of that could have been avoided.

He probably thought that the kids and his wife were his property.

The police said they had investigated the man regarding his family a couple of years ago so their had to have been some issue; maybe domestic violence.
