Re: Updating Driver's License to "REAL ID??"

Well, that's a rational response.

Re: Updating Driver's License to "REAL ID??"

@catter70

.

Thank you, so much!! I was a literal "basket case."

But her husband *really* really stepped up! First time, he just so happened to be "big time," really tested & he passed with flying colors! Which is soooo incredibly, reassuring. She & our family is so blessed to have him.

.

I've dropped everything the last week, just to be available, "in the event," & to hear any updates, any news.

Today, Im waiting for today's update, her 2nd full day home. It must be a good reason why I havent heard. Each day she's demonstrated remarkable progress, imho

.

@catter70Thanks for asking, & good wishes! Woman Happy

So, a passport will work for federal buildings and flights, but a real ID won't take the place of a passport, right?

I wonder why it was pushed back two whole years. Maybe more confusion than they expected?

This isn't the first time it's been pushed back. I tried to get a Real ID 18 months ago and the lady at the DMV was so rude I left and I decided to just keep my passport current.

I think the new date from Homeland Security is May, 2025. DMV is a mess in my neck of the woods, and they can't get people appointments.

Re: Updating Driver's License to "REAL ID??"

Our state started converting to this pre-Covid. My husband and I got our's - although it was a bit of a fiasco. So much documentation and paperwork! Thankfully, we can renew online when it is time. Mu understanding was it is for domestic travel identification.

My update about three years back. I want be up to date. I do have precheck and a passport yet I feel this is just one more step just in case it is something that is mandated in some areas.

Re: Updating Driver's License to "REAL ID??"

[ Edited ]

I just got my new regular driver's license in the mail today.

I had a Real ID driver's license for years from another state, but when we moved here and went for our new licenses, motor vehicle took that from me-didn't matter that I had already been approved for one in my prior state! They handed me a piece of paper that was a temporary driver's licence (No picture and it specifically said not to be used as ID...ugh).

So I went about two weeks with no photo ID.

My marriage certificate was so old, you couldn't *feel* the embossed stamp on it and motor vehicle wouldn't issue me a Real ID. (Clerk insisted it was a copy.) I had all the other paperwork needed. But, touche. They told me I needed a new copy with the embossed stamp/seal.

I'll worry about that at a later date....

Re: Updating Driver's License to "REAL ID??"

I got mine in 2018. My old ID had expired. I brought my birth certificate, Social Security Card, bank statement, and utility bill. I was also moving to a new apartment, so I also brought my lease so they would put my new address on the card. I had no trouble. It was actually one of the easiest visits I made to the MVA.

Re: Updating Driver's License to "REAL ID??"

At some point, it is going to be a requirement. My license renewal was up last June, so I just brought a folder full of whatever they might need. It was easier than I thought. Now that's done.

Re: Updating Driver's License to "REAL ID??"

I just switched over from a standard driver's license to a Real ID. It was not an easy process for me. Appointments were booked out a month, and you couldn't just drop in. You could wait outside and if you were lucky, they would let a few people in, but there was no guarantee. People with appointments were given priority. I read about what I needed online, but when I finally got in the door, she told me my documents weren't good enough. I had to go online and request an official birth certificate from my state. The one I had wasn't "official". Finally, got everything together, and got my Real ID so I could fly next year for a trip. Then, I saw they were extending the deadline again.
