Live update has death toll at 11. No children.

many synagogues have security most of the day, most days, here in Los Angeles - even before 9/11 - due to a shooting at  Jewish community center that caused a long look at the dangers of terrorism.  a lot of them have schools and of course want adequate protection in that circumstance as well as for services.  there is usually police presence on the High Holidays.  this is the reality of life in the big city.

Thank for this update @SahmIam.  Having heard that a bris and naming ceremony was going on at the time of the attack I have been so worried about the baby which would likely only be 8 days old.  Such a relief.  I'm in tears of both thankfulness and sorrow.
