Long story short: the vet did the surgery on BooBoo this afternoon and then called to tell us that he looks like he's in pretty good shape. His X-ray showed that the tumor hadn't invaded anything or anywhere. He excised the tumor and a little extra around the edges, just to make sure.

We're going to bring him home tomorrow and will, indeed, be wearing the Cone of Shame whenever we can't be here to stop him from licking his stitches. He has to be restrained from moving around for about 10 days. On the advice of the nurses, we bought a "kennel" for him; it's portable, easy to adjust, and we can remove the bottom so he can lay comfortably on the carpet. It also has room for his food and litter box. They really mean business about keeping him quiet for 10 days. Oy!

Bless that vet. He's given him plenty of pain medicine and instead of making us have to wrestle an antibiotic pill(s) down Boo's throat every day, gave him a long-lasting antibiotic shot. A little extra, but worth it. This whole experience is going to set us back $3K +/- $200; money well spent. Thank God for credit cards.

I warned my husband that poor Boo will look like heck when we pick him up, but that's to be expected. I called our son right away to give him the good news and he was really relieved--he loves Boo a lot too.
