@shoesnbags.  I believe Sharke lives South of Amarillo whereas the fires are in the North.

The most common way grass fires start is when cars with hot catalytic converters pull to the side of the road and park on dry grass.  The whole Southwest is now covered with dried tumbleweeds, due to drought, which are the perfect tinder.

Our part of West Texas is some distance from the fires, but the cold front brought in the smoke.

hope, I never have to evacuate tell the men hang on boys I gotta get a garbage bag and take my jewelry with me ! I'll give orders "hey you grab those jackets and get on the ball grab that SMEG mixer too".

@granddi  CNN has several affiliates in Texas so the information is coming straight from those reporting in the area in Texas.

I am surprised, though, you found information to be sparse out of Amarillo.

 Our stations here have provided detailed coverage.

@On It.  They're saying we may actually get a little snow overnught as well as some of the smoke.

@Kachina624 The moisture would be welcome. The smoke, not so much. My husband saw a report that El Paso's east side is getting smoke from the fires. Maybe the mountains are keeping it blocked from the west side?
