My neighbor texted. He is leaving the motel in Artesia and driving to Albuquerque to stay with friends. He will continue to monitor our house.

Cell phone service is being restored. A long-time friend who has lived in Ruidoso his entire life is back in the village. He called to say the area around our house looks exactly the same. Therefore, I am certain the elk and the horses in our neighborhood should be there or up on the mountain behind our house. The fire did not threaten them.

The Lowe's grocery store is donating its food.  (It is on the corner of the street where the horses pictured in this thread are crossing.)  A nearby restaurant is cooking it and giving it away to anyone who wants a meal.

Roswell, NM has planned a special outing Saturday for evacuees.

@Estellee We will have to receive instructions from the village. They will be bringing folks back gradually. I get the idea this will be a fairly slow process.

The mayor announced a decision would be reached today concerning evacuees' return. He said it would be days, not weeks.
