We acquired a rescue dog last month. She's 8 months old and can't relax with the fireworks going off. They've been going off since 9 pm and we still have a half hour until midnight. Our other dog is fast asleep. I'd like to go to bed but she won't stop shivering so we're hanging out. Is anyone else awake and want to chat?
I think I know why she may have gotten away from her original owners, I'm thinking fireworks.

I'm here and have been cussin' at the stupid locals in my neighborhood since 5:00. It's only 10:30 now. Fireworks and fire crackers have been intermittent day and night since before Christmas. But it has been non stop tonight. I HATE it. The mentality of this so called tradition is sheer stupidity to me. ""Our"" 2 old senior dogs are at their other home with their original owners next door and are drugged up on benedryl and hopefully conked out for a couple more hours. But I'm so pis'd off and upset at the people in my neighborhood right now I wouldn't mind if I woke up to news tomorrow that they all blew their collective arms off! ENOUGH!

Yeah, my last nerve is stepped on, jangled and fried! This constant blasting bombardment from all sides is extremely stressful. I'd like for the perps to suffer.

I am NOT the perp, so don't jump on me!

Yeah, fireworks can be so stressful to some dogs. I have one that is bothered terribly by them as well as thunderstorms.
I tried everything, including the thundershirt and holistic remedies, to help her during thunderstorm season, without success. Finally had to agree to prozac and it helps some. Storms of course, it's more than just the noise that affects dogs.
Fireworks it's just the flash and noise. I have found that I can close all the curtains and turn the volume way up on the TV or radio and that really helps. Too late to help you out this year, but maybe you can try it come 4th of July.
