@CelticCrafter wrote:When it comes to the telephone calls, if it's not showing my in-laws name, my brother-in-laws name or my daughters name, I dont answer it. It can either be blocked by nomorobo or go to voice mail. I don't care if it shows a local number or not.
As far as junk mail - I don't know who is winning the race but AARP, Capitol One and AAA are really close. Apparently the opt out of pre-approved credit cards doesn't apply to Capitol One. I've started sending the krap back to all them if there is a pre-paid envelope included in with the junk.
We have credit freezes in place, so I don't care what CO does with it.
Any other consistent junk we get, I mark it return to sender.
I get tired of having to shred it all.
I tried calling Capitol One and it didnt do any good, so what I did was go to the Better Business Bureau website and filed a complaint online. I got quick results, a call from a pleasant woman and the problem was resolved. In addition to the call, I got a letter to confirm the action they had taken to remove from all forms of solitication. And all the solicitiations by phone and mail stopped!!!
The reason I was so concerned is our local news reported a warning that fraudsters were breaking into these community mailboxes. The big concern was blank credit card applications with a person's name which could be used by fraudsters to open an account, they could just update the addresson on the form to send a credit card to them...SCARY!!! The scammers could use them for online purchases and have a ball......

Those calls are increasing by leaps and bounds and there isn't much anyone can do about it. My land line is only for my fax machine but I see the junk calls flash on my tv screen when they come in and I get a ton of them. And I've never given that number to anyone. I can only imagine the aggravation if that phone rang. I also get more and more calls like that on my cell but thankfully my cell phone company detects most of them. The phone rings once and I get that "Scam Call" or "Likely A Scam Call" message on the screen. They block that particular number but the scammers have unlimited numbers. Honestly, I've learned not to worry about things I can't control. This is just part of modern life.

We are even getting them from the names of our hospitals and one of our neighbors names! We leave our answering machine on all the time. It it's "out of area" I never answer it. It it's a reminder for an office visit or something we need to know, they will leave a message.
I think I have noticed lately, the less you pick up, the fewer robo calls. Now if I could just get DH not to pick up. He just thinks you HAVE to answer a ringing phone! Oh, well....he has to answer it because I don't! That irritates him but ......he is learning! LOL!!!

@Spurt - it's just so annoying that protecting identity and privacy has turned into a full time job.

And they call it progress! I think what is happening is we are aquiring knowledge so fast that we can't keep up with it. Knowledge is great but without wisdom to foresee the possibilities and be ready for it.........not so good.

You are so right, so in the long run is all this technology really saving us any time with all the surveillance we have to do????

I think people get all excited about all the latest gadgets that they don't take time to step back and look what are ALL the ramifications!!! Just like Alexa, the Google Assistant, and Siri...don't you know those "fun" devices are collecting info too.....Im waiting for the shoe to fall on the other foot with those devices too.........

@Spurt, just the other day, someone mentioned this: He and a friend were having a conversation, one asked, "I wonder what the capital of Finland is," the other picked up his phone to google. Typed in C A P, and google suggested "Capital of Finland". Was it listening?

LOL...Kinda creepy if you ask me....There have been funny stories about these devices someone's parrot was imitating the owner, and Alexa ordered some items online thinking it was the owner doing the ordering...LOL.
There's a thread somewhere on this Forum discussing stories too....

And, I don't answer numbers I don't recognize.
But, the number of unwanted calls has greatly increased lately. Even blocked numbers call 6 - 8 times a day. Over and over from early morning until evening.
I check daily to see what numbers are coming in. It never ends. You would think if they call 6 times and no answer, they would stop calling. They don't.
Every day, new numbers appear -- some with names, some with locations -- many with local exchanges. I never answer and block them.
They continue to call. Just relentless.
My phone will accept 250 blocks and I've already erased all of them and started over again.
Amazing that it seems to be all different numbers.
I will not get rid of my land line -- and even my cell phone gets unwanted calls, but not many.
Just crazy.
@Witchy Woman Your comments read like you believe there’s a human being calling you. There is no logic involved. It’s a machine/computer program and they don’t think or make decisions. They’ll call you until doomsday. Block ‘em!
