Undercover report on TODAY asking for room nearby another hotel guest

Given the Erin Andrews suit, the TODAY show did an undercover report.  Basically, a woman named "Kathy" first checked into a hotel, then was followed sometime later by another guest (Jeff Rossen) asking for the room next to "Kathy's" room.  It was scary, but some of the hotel front desk personnel not only granted his request, but actually gave out her room number too (unsolicited).   Pretty scary if you have a stalker.

These hotels better get with it or they're gonna be in a heap of trouble.

Why do hotel rooms need peep holes anyway?

When we travel I always plug the peep hole up.  It's funny but when we've stayed at hotels and our friends or family too, we tell the front desks their name in case they ask for us or to let them know we are checked in.  So far there hasn't been any problem with our method of madness but it sure is scary to read about these incidents happening.

If someone comes knocking on MY hotel room door, you can bet your sweet bippy that I want to know who is on the other side before I open that door.

That's why hotel room doors have peep holes.

Now is the time to update and train for situations like this. Hotel employees probably have no idea how sick some people are.

Wrong is still wrong just because you benefited from it.

So, if you're in a hotel somewhere and you get a knock on the door...you just open it?  No, thank you!

I ask who is it?

Maids will announce who they are.

Also a good idea to keep the lock on your door (that latch bar that folds over to a metal knob at the door jamb).

Just put a Post-it over that peeper hole. I always do. Hey there's a new product for them! Anti-peeper Post-its.

Anyone can claim to be anyone!  Not all criminals are male.

I keep all the locks fastened, when I'm in a hotel anywhere.  And I would check through the peephole.  If a maid arrived (in uniform) at an odd time or when no service was requested, I would only open the door with the latch in place.  Better safe than very sorry.

Anyone can claim to be anybody. You are just going to take someone at their word that they are who they say they are?

Very, very, risky!

And that latch is no guarantee that someone who is determined enough, won't be comming in if they want to.

All they have to do is kick the door in, when you have it open, even when using that latch.

It is ALWAYS best to see who it is FIRST by looking through the peephole, before opening the door.

But, hey, it's your life not mine.

I'd rather be safe by looking through the peephole, than sorry, by trusting someone to be who they say to be, and opening the door.
